What are the responsibilities and job description for the Railroad Switchman position at Maine Switching Services, LLC?
A Full Time Railroad Switchman you are responsible for assembling trains, switching railroad cars and delivery railroad cars to their destination within a industrial complex.
This is a full time position. Available positions at Skowhegan, ME. Railroad experience preferred, heavy equipment experience required. Day positions start at 3:30am and evening positions start at 3pm. Shifts are up to 8 hours. 8 hour per day gurantee paid. Needed days are Monday - Sunday.
Responsible to perform safety inspections of locomotives and railcars.
- Operate locomotives.
- Must be able to ascertain nature of mechanical failures to locomotive and/or railcars.
- Judge and control speed of cars, distance of travel to safely move railcars.
- Receive and communicate instructions via hand signals, radio, speech, and written instructions.
- Examines railroad car switching list to determine which railcars are to be placed and/or removed at/from loading & unloading locations in industrial complex.
- Operate track switches to change the direction of the locomotive or cars.
- Set or release handbrakes on rail cars and locomotives.
- Follow operating rules.
- Prepare required daily reports.
- Be a part of a team to provide exceptional customer service.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor
You must be a self starter, problem solver and able to work in all weather conditions.
