The Maine Trust for Local News, a nonprofit news organization, seeks outstanding, accomplished journalists to join our team of news editors.
We are an ambitious news organization with high standards and a talented staff, and we need strong editors to help lead our efforts. We aim to do it all breaking news, compelling narratives, accountability reporting, data-driven journalism with engaging interactives. For the right candidates, this is a fantastic opportunity. But you must be able to juggle a lot: big enterprise stories, medium-length dailies and quick breaking news.
News editors will supervise five to six reporters and work closely with other assignment editors, web editors and visuals editors.
The right candidates possess all of these qualities and skills: You work with reporters as each story is conceived and throughout its development. You enjoy working collaboratively with your own staff and with other editors. You see story ideas everywhere. You ask a lot of questions and prosecute stories. You think visually. You see interactive and multimedia potential in every idea. You monitor coverage in other publications. You work with a sense of urgency. You give regular feedback to your staff. Experience editing daily news is preferred.
