Summary

Overview: This position will be working on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed): Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Grant Program. This grant teaches eligible low-income community members how to eat healthy on a limited budget and lead physically active lifestyles. Strong candidates will have a background in providing education or formal training and experience teaching nutrition using prescribed curricula. This position will be required to keep detailed records for reporting and evaluation. The candidate will work independently, be well-organized, and possess a strong attention to detail. Travel is required throughout the local service area and occasionally to statewide trainings in a central location (1-2 per year).
Responsibilities:
  • Implement Maine SNAP-Ed program deliverables in accordance with USDA SNAP-Ed, Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and University of New England (UNE) requirements.
  • Develop new and strengthen existing partnerships with community-based agencies to provide obesity prevention services, including nutrition education and physical activity programs to SNAP eligible households.
  • Partner with local eligible school districts, childcare centers, community centers, and other organizations serving low-income families to implement evidence-based nutrition programs.
  • Work with community partners to develop and/or implement selected policy, systems and environmental change strategies that supplement the direct education and aid in obesity prevention.
  • Support Maine SNAP-Ed social marketing campaign and social media promotion of programming.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings, both in-person and online, in accordance with grant funding.
  • Complete reporting and evaluation processes as set by USDA SNAP-Ed, Maine DHHS and UNE.

Minimal Qualifications:

  •  Preference given to Registered Dietitians. Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public health, exercise science, health   education or behavioral sciences preferred.  Comparable experience may be substituted. 
  •  Preference will be given for experience in implementing nutrition education and obesity prevention services   and/or policies in school or community settings.
  •  Experience using Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel 
  •  Valid Maine driver's license and reliable transportation.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
    • License/Certifications: N/A
    • Experience: 1 - 2 years of healthcare or related work experience. May require experience in a specific program area.
    • Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Finance Management skills, and experience working with complex spreadsheets.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and mult tasking skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
    • Demonstrated ability to model professional behavior by working as a valuable team member, respecting others, and maintaining open and honest communication.
