Job Overview
We are seeking a full-time Fiber Splicer to join Mainline Fiber. This position requires a combination of technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in various outdoor environments, at times in potentially challenging weather conditions and in physically demanding conditions.
Some travel will be required.
Occasional night and weekend work required.
Duties
- Proficiently use fiber optic splicing and testing equipment, including fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters and light sources.
- Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic cables to identify and resolve issues such as breaks, bends, or bad splices.
- Effectively work individually and as part of a team.
- Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors.
- Participate in on-call rotation for emergency repairs and maintenance outside of normal working hours.
- Perform other duties as needed related to the needs of the job.
Requirements
- Expertise in fusion splicing, OTDR testing, power meter/light source testing and troubleshooting
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic cable types, color codes, and installation techniques
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and GIS maps, including network schematics
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- FTTH knowledge as well as familiarity with microfiber and air blown fiber installation/splicing is a plus
