Responsibilities
The Senior Staff Contract Manufacturing Manager, Operations is responsible for developing and managing relationships with contract manufacturing partner(s) to support Mainspring's growth in manufacturing volume and production. The role involves sourcing, qualifying and developing a cost-effective partner, executing commercial agreements, and developing long-term strategies to improve the partnership. This role will also be responsible for ensuring manufacturing performance, cost objectives, capacity and quality goals are met or exceeded.
In partnership with cross-functional teams, this role will create an efficient and innovative supply chain that delivers cost reduction, long term business continuity, compliance, and working capital improvements. They will also lead projects to improve the CM’s financial planning, tracking, and control processes. Additionally, the Manager will provide support for financial analyses and decision-making related to capital investments, pricing, contract negotiations, inventory / working capital and other significant cash and cost elements.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key contract manufacturer(s) to drive supply chain strategy, ensure efficient and cost-effective production and meet future growth.
Lead budgeting, financial planning, forecasting, and reporting for your areas of responsibility.
Develop and continually update an operating system and processes to provide real-time insight and control over contract manufacturer’s spending.
Oversee cost variances, identify root causes, and drive cost improvements. Manage periodic reviews of COGS for budgeting and forecasting and other Manufacturing performance metrics. Negotiate costs, and drive cost reduction.
Project manage and facilitate key initiatives involving stakeholders from Mainspring and the contract manufacturer to drive improvement and scale / ramp readiness for both companies.
Partner with Engineering, Quality and New Product Introduction teams to ensure that all contract manufacturers meet the company's product, quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and contractual requirements.
Negotiate and maintain comprehensive commercial agreements, contracts, amendments, and renewals with contract manufacturers, aligning with the business strategy.
Ensure selected contract manufacturer(s) are remaining competitive and continually review options to drive the best long-term partners for Mainspring.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in a technical or engineering discipline or equivalent including supply chain, accounting, economics, business, or finance
At least 10 years experience in a supply chain organization with a proven track record of contract manufacturer and supplier evaluation, selection, contract negotiation, and global supply base management
Deep understanding of contracting concepts and issues in the Contract Manufacturing industry including indemnity, warranty, performance guarantees, and liquidated damages.
A proven negotiator with strong experience in cost engineering, should-cost modeling,
Proven experience with planning and monitoring budgets, forecasts, and expenditures for major or multi-year projects and / or programs
Ability to work in different systems / sources with large datasets and ability to use data-driven decision-making. Comfortable working in detailed financial and / or quantitative analysis using Excel, Google Sheets, and analytical tools / systems.
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
Preferred qualifications include :
Master's degree in a technical or engineering field (or equivalent), or MBA
Cost accounting for manufacturing businesses.
Experience in lean manufacturing, automated assembly processes, Six Sigma and LEAN certification.
Experience with ERP / MRP systems, and data analysis and visualization tools, such as Excel, SQL databases, Python, Tableau, or Power BI.
Experience with evaluating and improving manufacturing performance and effectively managing contract manufacturer relationships to drive innovation, quality, and costs to support company objectives.
Previous experience leading large-scale and complex, strategic negotiations.
The Bay Area salary for this role is $150k - $185k base salary pre-IPO stock options benefits. This position is on-site (hybrid) in Menlo Park, CA. The salary will be adjusted based on the experience of the employee.

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and / or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.
Salary : $150,000 - $185,000
