Mainstream Fiber Networks is seeking a GIS Supervisor. The GIS (Geographic Information System) Supervisor will help the GIS Manager oversee the implementation, and maintenance of the company's GIS operations, ensuring the accurate mapping and analysis of fiber telecommunications networks. This role supports the GIS Manager to help drive the company’s network planning, deployment, and maintenance activities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Supervise a subset of the current GIS Team, ensuring timely delivery of GIS-related projects and services.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of GIS databases, tools, and applications to support fiber telecommunications operations.
- Ensure the accurate collection, analysis, and visualization of spatial data, including fiber routes, customer connections, and service areas.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to produce detailed maps, reports, and analytics for network planning and expansion.
- Develop and implement GIS workflows, standards, and best practices to improve data accuracy, accessibility, and efficiency.
- Stay updated on emerging GIS technologies and trends, recommending solutions that align with organizational goals.
- Partner with internal teams, including engineering, project management, construction, and customer service, to meet project and operational requirements.
- Proven ability to manage and motivate a team to achieve goals and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in GIS, experience in a leadership role is a plus.
- Experience in the telecommunications or fiber optic industry is highly desirable.
- Comfort in presenting data and financials to team and various other departments.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working with multi-screen display
- Proficient in standard Microsoft tools such as Excel, Word, SharePoint, etc.
- Proficiency in GIS Software (e.g., Esri ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial database management systems.
- Ability to multi-task as well as use critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Vetro or other fiber management systems is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic network design.
- Experience in AutoCAD is a plus.
- Demonstrate self-management and direction toward accomplishing goals and completing specific work assignments
- Demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to adapt and be flexible as new work requirements emerge
- Ability to work in a general office environment
- This role is 65% office based while 35% would necessitate field visits to ensure quality, best practice standards and efficiencies are being met.
