This is a technical position responsible for “hands on” market support. This includes, but is not limited to, testing, identifying, and resolving complex optical and power equipment problems. Perform configuration and fault management of a wide array of platforms in the Mainstream network including fiber optic, telemetry, wireless, and power systems.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- The main purpose of this field position is the installation, testing, turn-up, and maintenance of fiber optic and other ancillary equipment that comprises the Mainstream network.
- Responsibilities include cabinet, node, and shelter area maintenance.
- Must be willing to be part of an “on call” rotation with other field technicians to handle after hours emergency situations.(ie. Battery / generator deployment, shelf replacement,
- Coordinate required activities with Network Operations Center personnel in the isolation and resolution of network problems.
- Provide guidance and leadership to junior technicians and contract personnel to accomplish assigned tasks in a timely, safe, and most cost-effective manner.
- As a part of a cross functional team, uses advanced knowledge and skill-sets as well as leadership abilities to support Network Deployment, Performance, and Reliability initiatives.
- Troubleshoots problems related to the network and mentor contract technicians in resolving complex problems.
- Frequently interfaces with the Mainstream customers, field team members, the NOC, Equipment Engineers, and service vendors.
- Provides an in-depth analysis for fault isolation as it pertains to fiber optics, telemetry, and AC / DC power systems.
- Uses in-depth knowledge to provide input on process improvement related to preventative maintenance routines as well as providing recommendations in the development of standard operating procedures.
- Responsible for the security and proper maintenance of corporate assets such as cell phone, laptop, spares, tools, test equipment, and vehicle.
- Follow company procedures and safety policies including OSHA safety standards.
