Position Overview
The Loan Underwriter functions as a senior loan officer to underwrite consumer loan and Indirect applications.
Major Responsibilities
1. Assists VP of Consumer Lending to generate increased loan volume throughout the Credit Union.
2. Identifies opportunities to cross sell products and services.
3. Review and make timely decisions as appropriate on consumer loan applications including; unsecured, automobile/motorized collateral, and home equity loans and lines.
4. Facilitate loan growth while maintaining safety and soundness within the loan portfolio.
5. Supports the funding of indirect contracts and remittance of proceeds to dealers.
6. May perform file review for quality control.
7. Provide business development of indirect loans by building partnerships through telephone interactions with the dealers.
8. Provides expertise as a subject matter expert for questions and to address elevated issues regarding lending decisions or product information.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Five (5) years’ experience underwriting consumer loans and two (2) years’ experience working with indirect dealers required.
- Time management skills.
- Proper business and personal etiquette.
- Negotiating/problem solving skills.
- Develop and display pride in work.
- Good judgment skills.
- Personal Computer and programs relevant to position.
- Use of 10-Key, typewriter, facsimile machine, and other office equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handleor feel; and reach with hands and arms.
