What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrician position at Maintenance Department?

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, maintain, repair and install electrical for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical fixtures in district facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Texas driver's license
Valid journeyman electrician license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of electrical circuits and wiring and operating pricniples of motors
Knowledge of local electrical codes
Knowledge of HVAC units preferred
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics and written reference material
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to use hand and power tools
Experience:
Five years experience in electrical field
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Maintenance and Repair
1.1 Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
1.2 Install and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
1.3 Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
1.4 Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments.
1.5 Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments.
1.6 Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
1.7 Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.
1.8 Arrange for contract labor when work cannot be performed by district staff.
1.9 Receive and complete work orders.
1.10 Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
1.11 Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
1.12 Maintian inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and materials.
1.13 Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
1.14 Work with building principles and Maintenance Director to complete projects.
1.15 Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures.
1.16 Respond to emergency calls as needed.
2. Safety
2.1 Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
2.2 Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
2.3 Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
2.4 Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifitng, climbing, etc.
2.5 Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to Maintenance Director immediately.
3. Other
3.1 Attend school/training sessions as required.
3.2 Perform other duties as assigned by Maintenance Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
EQUIPMENT USED:
Meters and testing equipment, gages, soldering iron, wire puller, pipe benders and threaders, welding equipment, hand and power tools (saw, drills, etc.), trencher, jackhammer, concrete saw, ladder, hoists, propane torch. Light truck or van.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, around electrical power lines, outside and inside. Expose to extreme temperatres. Frequent districtwide travel.
