Primary Purpose:
Maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping for the district.
Qualification Guidelines:
Education/Certifications:
High School Diploma or GED (desirable) Valid Texas Driver's License TDA Pest License or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment
Experience:
Two years' experience in gardening and landscape maintenance
Two years' supervisory experience (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of gardening and landscape maintenance
Ability to communicate (verbally)
Ability to operate tractor and landscaping equipment
Ability to operate riding or power mower, power tools & hand tools
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise roads/grounds crew
Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands:
Tools/Equipment Used: Heavy equipment, tractor and mower, riding and power mower, gas operated weed trimmer, blower edger, sprayer, striping machine, garden and hand tools; aerator. Truck or van.
Posture/Motion/Lifting: Continuouswalking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, carrying and heavy lifting. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, outside and inside.
Environment: Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals (fertilizer) and loud noises. Frequent district-wide travel, works around machinery with moving parts.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; communicate effectively and professionally at all times
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping
1. Mow, weed eat and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields.
2. Care for trees, shrubs and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching and caring for beds.
3. Watering grounds and applying fertilizer.
4. Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish and refuse from district facilities.
5. Inspect grounds and facilities and initiate needed repairs, including building and repair of fences and gates.
6. Assist with the installation, testing, adjustment and repair of sprinkler systems.
Safety
7. Instruct assigned personnel on proper and safe use of tools and equipment.
8. Operate tools, equipment and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
9. Follow established safety procedures and technique to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
10. Ensure vehicles, equipment and tools are in safe operating condition.
11. Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency.
12. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
Other
13. Transport workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district.
14. Assist with set up for special events as needed.
15. Perform other duties assigned.
