TITLE: CUSTODIAN
DEPARTMENT: School
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card within forty-five (45) days of employment.
- Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying.
JOB GOALS:
The Custodian provides a sanitary and safe environment for students and staff.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following tasks are essential for this position. This list is not inclusive of all responsibilities. Individuals may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed.
- Complies with all HIPAA and FERPA related confidentiality requirements.
- Develops positive relations with students, parents, and school staff.
- Takes direction from Lead Custodian.
- Sweeps, mops, waxes and scrubs floors as needed.
- Dusts and washes furniture and woodwork.
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
- Washes windows and walls as needed.
- Cleans restrooms and stocks supplies, including sports field restrooms (softball/baseball, track, concession, etc.).
- Collects and disposes of rubbish.
- Cleans drinking fountains inside and outside of buildings.
- Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment.
- Reports major damage to supervisor.
- Uses floor maintenance equipment.
- Replaces light bulbs when feasible.
- Secures buildings and site gate at end of shift.
- Reports vandalism, unauthorized people and safety hazards.
- Snow removal – at supervisor’s discretion.
- Performs various specific duties for the principal’s as requested.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of:
- Cleaning equipment and materials.
Skill and Ability to:
- Use a variety of cleaning equipment and materials.
- Follow written and oral directions.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

- Requires vision (which may be corrected) to read small print.
- Requires the mobility to stand, stoop, reach and bend. Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.

- Perform work which involves the frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects which may approximate 50 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 100 pounds.
- May be required to work with harsh and toxic substances.
- May be required to work around foul odors.
- Is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
REPORTS TO: Principal
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Principal in accordance with the provisions of Governing Board policy for evaluation of Classified personnel.
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months
SALARY: Salary for the position is set according to the Classified Salary Schedule determined by the Governing Board.
