SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

Under the direction of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisors maintains district cleaning standards of the custodial crews to insure a clean, sanitary, comfortable, and safe building for staff, students, and community members. Plans, works with, and provides input to evaluate the work of other custodians and substitute custodians within the district. This position requires the ability to travel from site to site and is subject to Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) drug and alcohol testing as provided by District Policy #5202.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts sequentially developed custodial training classes and refresher courses.
  • Conducts district facility observations, provides reports to the Maintenance and Operations Supervisors and the Director of Maintenance and Operations. Evaluates, identifies, and implements custodial work and inclusion in the scheduled cleaning program based on the outcomes of the observation reports. Assures compliance with approved District policy.
  • Provide professional feedback to custodial staff in a way that fosters a positive and welcoming team culture.
  • Works within established procedures to safeguard and operate the facility.
  • Performs technical inspections to assure compliance with specifications.
  • Works with Maintenance and Operations Supervisors to provide feedback on approved new custodial equipment, materials, and methods to keep abreast of latest developments in the custodial field.
  • Responds to emergencies which endanger life and district property and assists in cleaning and restoration work and prevention of further damage.
  • Responsible for minor repairs to building and equipment. Changes air filters, repairs classroom furniture, plans and works with custodians, to maintain buildings and grounds to district standards, paints wall surfaces where and when needed, performs minor repairs to protect the facility from damage, performs additional duties related to housekeeping.
  • May perform housekeeping services of the facilities to include emptying trash cans, cleans restrooms and classrooms, dusts and spot mops tiled floor areas, cleans furniture, vacuums and spot cleans carpeted areas, bonnets and extracts carpets when needed, cleans sinks, cleans windows, fills all types of dispensers and empties pencil sharpeners, straightens student desks, dusts high/low, changes light bulbs, changes classroom trash can liners, cleans drinking fountains, washes walls, preps and applies floor finish to tile floors when needed, preps, applies finish and maintains and wooden floors where needed, sweeps stairwells, entry ways, and thresholds, maintains pool area-temperature and chemicals, assembles and disassembles equipment for special events in the building, cleans all custodial equipment at end of shift.
  • Orders supplies in sufficient quantity to maintain proper operation of the district, maintains building security, renders assistance to maintenance personnel when requested, maintains records and files connected with the operation and safeguarding of the facility, ensure completion of various checks and sends reports to the Custodial Services office within established time frames or as requested, completes work orders and vandalism reports.
  • Directs daily activities and provides input for the evaluation of custodial and substitute custodians. Plans, directs, and works with custodians within the district.
  • Ensures the safe and courteous operation of assigned District vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Chief Custodian or Supervisory Experience.
  • Physically able to perform the duties demanded of a custodian.
  • Experience in the minor repair of electrical, plumbing and carpentry areas.
  • Successful completion of district standard custodial classes within 1 year of start date.
  • Computer training or experience necessary.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and to supervise others.
  • Ability to work cohesively with building staff, maintenance personnel and patrons of the district.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing and carpentry repair.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply district housekeeping standards.
  • Ability to work with others as a team (i.e., team cleanings).
  • Ability to follow instructions both written and oral from supervisor.
  • Ability to communicate in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds to chest height from floor level, as well as perform pushing, pushing, and lifting activities required to move equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and work well under pressure
  • Ability to receive and positively act upon constructive criticism
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive material and information.
  • Basic knowledge of English grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
  • Basic knowledge Microsoft Office Suite software
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance

Certification & Licenses

  • Valid Washington State driver’s license, proof of insurance, and ability to access JBLM (enhanced driver's license or passport).
  • First Aid/CPR within 1 year of start date.
  • Successful completion of fingerprint and background check.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Supervisory experience.
  • School custodial or maintenance experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.  Employee may be exposed to inclement weather, dust, fumes, dirt, bleach and other industrial cleaning chemicals, chalk, loud noises, heights, mechanical equipment, sharp objects, and infectious diseases.  Physical exertion is required and employee may be required to stand for prolonged periods of time.  Must be able to bend, squat, twist, walk, reach, climb, push/pull 60 pounds, lift and carry 50 pounds, and have ordinary skill and speed using fingers, hands, and limbs.  This position will be expected to travel between buildings. May involve negotiating steps, ramps, uneven surfaces, and going outdoors in all types of weather to reach some classrooms or other buildings.  Dexterity of fingers and hands to operate equipment and a computer keyboard is required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employee’s responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.
