TITLE: Fleet Supervisor
REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance and Transportation
PURPOSE: The purpose of the Fleet Supervisor is to effectively oversee and manage the maintenance and upkeep of all District vehicles, including buses, tractors, airlifts, fuel tanks, and equipment. This involves ensuring that all fleet assets are in a state of good repair and safety, adhering to relevant maintenance schedules and regulations. The Fleet Supervisor will play a crucial role in preventing breakdowns, minimizing downtime, and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the District's transportation fleet. This position demands technical expertise, problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team while upholding the district's standards and policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must have and maintain a valid Arizona State Driver’s License.
- Must have and be able to maintain a valid Arizona State CDL Driver’s License with Passenger & School Bus Endorsements.
- Must have and maintain a valid Arizona DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Formal training in related field (preferred).
- Three (3) years of experience in the field of mechanics, school transportation, transportation laws, regulations, and policies (preferred)
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
- Experience working with technology and software systems to perform duties.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- In coordination with the Director of Maintenance and Transportation, oversees and directs the activities of the fleet department.
- Supervises, directs, assigns, and evaluates the personnel within the department.
- Ensures that mechanic and fleet work is performed in accordance with established standards and procedures while upholding laws, district policies and safety regulations.
- Assist the Director of Maintenance & Transportation in the investigation and corrective action of all safety incidents and concerns.
- Complete all required paperwork associated with the maintenance and repair of district vehicles and equipment in a timely and effective manner.
- Responsible for the recruitment, selection, and training of new employees for the fleet department.
- Coordinate with Trasnportation Supervisor concerning bus and vehicle availability.
- Coordinate with state authorities to ensure conformity with state/federal standards such as OSHA, Arizona State Facility Board, Arizona Health Department, City of Buckeye, and National Emissions Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants.
- Perform mechanic work, both preventive and repair, on gasoline and diesel school buses, vehicles, equipment, i.e., change oil, filters, belts, check fluids, etc.
- Inspect and keep district vehicles in a condition of compliance with all District, State and Federal regulations and in a condition that they pass all required testing.
- Assist in keeping the district vehicles clean, i.e., washed, waxed, vacuumed, etc.
- Respond to all vehicle repairs in a timely manner.
- Help develop requisitions for the purchase of supplies, parts, tools, and equipment as needed working with the Director.
- Maintain sufficient inventories of tools, parts, and supplies to properly maintain the property.
- Collect, store, and dispose of all hazardous materials as required by federal, state, and local regulations and laws.
- Assist with bus driving as needed.
- Use materials and operate equipment in a safe and responsible manner, using all safety equipment or clothing which might be reasonable to ensure the safety of self, fellow employees and students.
- Assume responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings, district activities, and training as assigned.
- Maintain open communication with students, parents, community and staff.
- Oversee and ensure accuracy and effective fuel tank inspections and documentation, ordering and overseeing the refilling of diesel and gas, and adding fuel additives to the diesel.
- Represent the district in a professional manner and in the best interests of the district.
- Oversee the inspections of the car and bus lifts and maintain the documentation accordingly.
- Oversee the corrective action of any bus and vehicle recalls by filling out the documentation and sending it to the Recall Company.
- Oversee the assignment of tasks to the Mechanics and their helpers.
- Produce and maintain records of gas/diesel keys for buses and vehicles.
- Produce and maintain yearly fuel reports to the Accounting Department.
- Maintain documents on each bus and vehicle as required by the District, State and Federal laws.
- Oversee and make repairs to the fuel tank(s) system making sure they are always operational and ready for fueling.
- Keeps storage and shop areas neat, well-stocked, clean, organized manner.
- Attend meetings, district activities, and training as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Director of Maintenance and Transportation to develop, analyze, and manage the transportation operating budget.
- Monitor and track budget expenditures.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize resource allocation.
- Prepare budget reports and presentations for review by relevant stakeholders.
- Perform employee evaluations for all employees within the Transportation department.
- Prepare buses for yearly DPS inspections and oversee the inspections.
- Perform diagnostics on buses and vehicles.
- Work with vendors for collecting quotes and making repairs of buses and vehicles.
- Review work orders, make repairs, and complete work orders through the District work order system.
- Complete all required Safe School Training as required by the District, attend meetings, district activities, and training as assigned.
- Continue personal and professional development through involvement in professional organizations and by attending professional conferences.
- Represent the district in a professional manner, and in the best interests of the district.
- Perform additional duties and accept other responsibilities as may be assigned.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to moderately high during the transportation of students on the bus or while staff is in the building. The work location may change based on the needs of the district, including both inside buildings, tight spaces, outdoors, in the heat, on and off the bus or other district vehicles. Driving from site to site may be required regularly.
The work environment requires flexibility in the work schedule. On occasions, due to inclement weather or an emergency, work may be required during after hours, the weekend or on an on-call basis.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
12-month position
FLSA Status: Exempt
Starting Salary: Classified Exempt Supervisor rate, starting at $70,000
Earned Paid Sick Time: Up to 5 days/year
Personal Business: Up to 7 days/year
Vacation: Accrues up to 15 days/year depending on longevity with the district
Full Benefits (Health, dental, vision & life): Begins on the first day following 60 day of employment
