What are the responsibilities and job description for the Future Maintenance, Groundskeeper position at Maintenance & Transportation?
Maintenance and Groundskeeper Personnel are extremely important to the local school operation. The daily care of a district’s facilities aids in the implementation of the academic program by ensuring a safe and healthy environment for the students, staff and faculty. Maintenance workers must be able to perform multiple tasks, including but not limited to lifting packages and supplies, have the ability to climb, must be able to move around outside, sometimes on a grassy or uneven outdoor surface, while using both hands to use such equipment as industrial blowers, power washers, etc., must be able to safely use a ladder to access otherwise unreachable areas, must be able to frequently reach above the head with both hands and be able to grasp and lift objects in this position weighing up to 40 pounds, must have the ability to observe the school environment to identify areas and objects in need of repair in order to provide a safe, aesthetically pleasing, learning environment, must be able to lift, handle and use heavy and awkward tools and equipment as pole saws from the ladder, operate multiple machinery, and have a valid driver’s license. Maintenance staff are encouraged to obtain their CDL license with airbrake endorsement.
Maintenance tasks include but not limited to :
- Changing light bulbs, fluorescent tubes
- Air filters
- Tightening hinge screws
- Lubricating hinges
- Making emergency repairs of windows and doors
- Painting
- Recognizing unusual smells, sounds and signs that indicate problems with plumbing electrical, and HVAC systems
- Follow proper shut-off procedures when problems do exist
- Report needed major maintenance to the maintenance supervisor
- Repair equipment
- Assemble furniture
- Deliver lunch and breakfast
- Deliver custodial supplies to all buildings
- Repair toilets
- Fire alarm inspections
- General maintenance/repairs
- Successfully use School Dude
- Assist the Maintenance Supervisor or Groundskeeper as needed
- Any other duties as assigned
Groundskeeper tasks include but not limited to :
- Daily inspect grounds and pick up any debris
- Landscape all buildings flower beds/ shrub beds including but not limited to mulch, weed removal, planting shrubs/flowers, shaping and maintaining current shrubs
- Deliver custodial supplies to all buildings
- Deliver lunch and breakfast
- Be able to prioritize work with minimal supervision
- Assist maintenance personnel
Maintenance Supervisor:
- Perform all duties as listed above as a maintenance and groundskeeper personnel
- A certified hvac technician
- Certified electrician
- Act proactively to support maintenance and groundskeeper personnel
- Repair appliances throughout the district
- Repair locks
- Work with the tech team on intercoms
- Assist with carpentry skills
- Effectively communicate and listen to the needs of staff and administrators
- Assign work orders to maintenance and groundskeeper personnel
- Report all absences to the maintenance and transportation coordinator and have personnel to complete the proper absentee paperwork to the Assistant Superintendent’s office
- Call and make appointments with outside contractors on repairs needed
- Debrief with the Assistant Superintendent
