PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist with daily maintenance and upkeep of all facilities for the Amarillo ISD. Assist in directing and managing district’s maintenance and custodial operations. Assist in maintaining physical school plant in excellent operating condition so that full educational use may be made at all times. Provide a physical environment that is functional, safe, clean, and attractive.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong communication, public relations, organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage and coordinate diverse district functions through subordinate supervisors
Thorough understanding of school administrative operations with the ability to implement policy and procedures
Familiarity with the local building code and knowledge of building construction practices and laws governing the construction and repair of public buildings
Working knowledge of the school plant maintenance and construction industry with the ability to estimating cost and scheduling project phases
Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the various building maintenance trades
Ability to analyze needs, interpret data and facilitate the implementation of strategies to make improvements
Ability to read blueprints and schematics
Ability to multi-task and frequently change priorities

Minimum Experience:
Three years of successful experience in a supervisory capacity in either business, industry, or a government agency
Three years of successful experience in the area of planning or maintaining a large physical plant or facility
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Building Maintenance and Repair
- Assist in supervision of work system to ensure repairs and projects are being completed in a timely manner.
- Assist in the supervision of preventative maintenance program for all school facilities
- Assist in the design phase discussions between the architect and other District staff
- Prepare recommendations for modernization and renewal of school facilities, examine facilities, and confer with appropriate District staff members.
- Work cooperatively with other District staff members to determine priorities and develop timelines for completing projects.
- Assist in the process of developing standards and criteria for the various fixtures, components, materials, and procedures to be used in the modernization and renewal of the buildings.
- Work with assigned architects in the development of plans for renovating and repairing existing facilities and for construction of new facilities to insure compliance with District standards and criteria.
- Provide professional judgment regarding unforeseen design problems inherent in the renovation of school buildings.
- Supervise the technical review of plans and specifications prepared by architects/engineers.
- Recommend approval of preliminary plans, completed work drawings, and specifications.
- Review and validate construction cost estimates.
- Establish construction schedules.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
- Edit and update the AISD Technical Design Guidelines as needed
- Coordinate renovations of existing facilities and the construction of new facilities.
- Participate in the establishment and implementation of a systematic preventive maintenance program.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned maintenance and skilled trades staff; review work and participate in the selection of new personnel as assigned
- Conduct investigations. identifications, documentations, scheduling, and oversee the removal of all hazardous materials including, but not limited to, asbestos, lead, and chemicals, mold remediation and air quality
- Conduct inspections of buildings and facilities to determine quality of work performed; recommend the removal of fire, safety or health hazards including asbestos-related issues; instruct staff in safe work practices.
- Develop and prepare work schedules for contractors; review maintenance reports; prioritize and coordinate duties and assignments to assure effective workflow and facilitate operations; coordinate responses to emergency calls.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, monitor, and oversee day-to-day maintenance activities to assure the proper and efficient maintenance and repair of District buildings and facilities.
- Assist in developing and implementing an orientation/training program on proper operation and maintenance of school facilities for departmental personnel.
- Help in coordinating vacation schedules for departmental personnel.
- Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations and district requirements and develop a program of preventive safety of maintenance personnel.
- Ensure equipment is maintained in optimum operating condition.
- Ensure that district vehicles are maintained in a safe and effective working condition.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including timekeeping records.
- Participate in development of the district’s disaster plan and be prepared to take an active role in responding to emergencies as needed.
- Foster and promote collegiality and team building through the use of collaborative decision making processes.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental laws and regulations (ex. asbestos, underground storage, etc.)
- Abide by State and Federal laws, District policies, campus expectations and Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform other such duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise permanent and temporary personnel in departments as assigned.
