JOB SUMMARY
Transport students over scheduled routes and/or to and from special excursions; ensuring vehicle is in a safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses and to provide support for the Nadaburg Unified School District and NUSD Governing Board.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Transport students safely to and from school, on field trips and to and from other special events.
- Advise students and other passengers of behavior requirements for the purpose of enforcing rules and regulations and maintaining safety.
- Assess incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
- Assist students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe ingress and egress from buses including both emergency situations (including bus evacuations) and normal transport.
- Attend meetings, trainings, etc. for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting requirements of school bus certificate.
- Administers first aide, if required.
- Inspect assigned vehicles (e.g. brake system, oil levels, coolant, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that the vehicle is in a safe operating condition.
- Maintain assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior for the purpose of ensuring safety of vehicle, appearance and sanitation.
- Reports to the Director of Transportation immediately, in writing, about any malfunction of buses or other assigned vehicles.
- Maintains an accurate daily mileage log.
- Supervises the conduct of students on the bus.
- Reports, in writing, about any student misconduct.
- Checks the assigned bus, reviews the bus routes, and becomes familiar with routes, policy revisions and state regulations prior to taking the first bus run of the year.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety of all children, while they are under the driver’s supervision.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Level One IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Maintain a safe driving record.
- Pass the District driving test.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Multiple years of successful driving experience, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
SKILLED IN
- Utilizing automotive equipment.
- Performing maintenance procedures and troubleshooting equipment problems.
- Operating various tools and equipment for diagnostic and maintenance.
- Lifting heavy objects.
- Maintenance and repair procedures.
- Vehicle safety requirements.
- Reading and comprehending technical manuals.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud and can vary in temperature. The nature of this position is fast-paced and may occasionally be thought of as stressful. Through interaction with the public and other district employees, the employee may encounter different scents.
