Job Summary: The Assistant Maintenance Supervisor will assist the Maintenance Supervisor in overseeing the maintenance and operations of all Jefferson County Schools' facilities. This includes supervision of maintenance personnel, ensuring the efficient and effective upkeep of 12 school buildings, and managing various repair, renovation, and improvement projects. The position requires leadership, organizational skills, and technical knowledge to support the district’s mission of providing safe and functional learning environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Personnel Management:
- Supervise, train and evaluate a team of 15 maintenance employees.
- Assign daily tasks and monitor work performance to ensure high-quality standards are met.
- Provide leadership and support to team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Facility Maintenance Oversight:
- Monitor and manage maintenance requests across 12 school buildings to ensure timely completion.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
- Plan and coordinate preventive maintenance schedules.
- Project Coordination:
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Supervisor to plan and execute facility improvement projects, renovations, and repairs.
- Oversee contractors and vendors to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of projects, including timelines, budgets, and outcomes.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety codes and environmental standards.
- Assist in implementing safety training and protocols for the maintenance team.
- Respond to emergency maintenance issues promptly to minimize disruptions to school operations.
- Budget and Resource Management:
- Assist in preparing and managing the maintenance department’s budget.
- Monitor inventory and order supplies as needed to support maintenance operations.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Communication:
- Maintain open communication with school administrators, staff, and the Maintenance Supervisor regarding facility needs and project updates.
- Participate in meetings with district leadership to discuss maintenance priorities and goals.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in maintenance, construction, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in facility maintenance, construction, or a related field.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural maintenance.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Proficient in using maintenance management software and basic office applications.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Certification in a skilled trade (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and working in various environmental conditions.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
Work Environment:
- Primarily works in school facilities and outdoor settings.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays to address emergencies or complete projects.
Salary : $55,000 - $65,000
