POSITION SUMMARY |
The Maintenance Craftsman II (Electrician) works as a Journeyman or Master electrician in the maintenance, repair, and extension of electrical wiring and equipment in school buildings. This is highly skilled work involving responsibility for the performance of difficult and specialized electrical maintenance and repair operations. General assignments are received from superiors, but electricians are expected to plan the details of each job and carry it to completion with limited supervision. Perform skilled building maintenance, minor construction, and other general maintenance duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |
- Knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code.
- Runs underground and overhead wires and cable. Wires buildings and makes additions to existing wiring;
- Repairs transformers and other electrical equipment.
- Installs outlets and wiring for computers and computer networks.
- Installs and repairs fluorescent and general lighting fixtures and connections.
- Installs and maintains remote control devices for magnetic motor connections.
- Installs adjusts, and maintains utility motors and appliances; repairs and maintains electric motors; repairs kitchen appliances, motors, and boiler equipment.
- Performs preventative maintenance on electrical systems and components.
- Inspect, test, and diagnose issues with electrical systems and components.
- Installs electric call bells and buzzers, installs and repairs fire alarm systems and associated wiring and devices.
- Has basic knowledge of general building trades; plumbing, electrical and HVAC.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
- High school diploma, GED, or completion of a vocational school program or apprenticeship.
- Experience as a Journeyman or Master electrician and general building maintenance knowledge.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES |
- Good knowledge of the standard practices, tools and terminology of the electrical trade and building maintenance.
- Good knowledge of elementary electrical theory.
- Ability to make repairs to complicated electrical wiring, fixtures and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, climb, squat, reach, and kneel
- Comfortable reading and understanding electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY |
- Work collaboratively with other Maintenance trades and departments.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS |
- Reliable transportation is necessary.
- Daily travel between schools, LCS buildings, and local areas is required.
- Minimal travel outside of the City of Lynchburg is required.
