What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adaptive PE Para position at Maize Unified School District 266?
We are seeking a paraeducator to closely with our Adaptive PE teachers. This para will support students in mulitple building.
The Paraeducator Adaptive Physical Education assists in the supervision, instruction, and care of special needs students under the supervision of a licensed staff member; observing and documenting student progress; implementing plans for instruction; assisting students; and supporting students during physical education activities.
Essential Functions
- Assist instructional personnel in the implementation of physical education instructional activities following a prescribed plan developed by instructional personnel.
- Assist students during the performance of instructional activities which may involve assisted walking, getting on or off equipment, or in and out of wheelchairs; confers with students regarding progress.
- Train students and others in the safe and proper use of specialized physical education equipment; assist with use as needed; answer students’ questions regarding exercise and related exercise programs.
- Coordinate materials, equipment, facilities and supplies for classes.
- Set up, install, maintain and service equipment, materials and supplies used in classes; assist with the distribution and arrangement of equipment and other related materials.
- Maintain physical environment and condition of the facility and equipment; may order or arrange for the ordering of lab supplies and equipment; receive, store, issue and maintain supplies.
- Maintains a variety of documents, files, and records (e.g. daily log, reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing written reference and recording progress towards IEP goals and objectives.
- Collaborates with staff for the purpose of providing necessary support and information in evaluating student progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
- Monitors special education student(s) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates in meetings and in-service presentations (e.g. first aid, emergency procedures, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions to meet established annual state requirements.
- Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, bullying, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to State Law and school policies as a mandated reporter.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

High School diploma or equivalent
Some college hours preferred
Physical Demands, Working Environment
This position generally requires the following physical demands: frequent lifting and carrying up to seventy-five (75) pounds, some pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 80% walking, and 10% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
