Complete High School Maize is seeking a School Counselor. Candidates available in January 2025 or August 2025 are encouraged to apply. An endorsement in School Counseling will be required by start date.

Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program at assigned school. Counsel students to fully develop each student's academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special population students. Deliver guidance curriculum in various group sizes. Educate students of skills necessary to address troublesome circumstances, support students in challenging situations, and assist students with needed resources to navigate crisis situations.

Qualifications :

Education / Certification : Master's degree in School Counseling w / appropriate licensure,

non-violent crisis intervention

Special Knowledge / Skills : Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career

development; excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability

to instruct students and manage their behavior; ability to present information

one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, families, and district staff

Experience :

Major Responsibilities and Duties :

  • Plan, organize, implement, and deliver structured group lessons according to the district's guidance curriculum to improve students' interpersonal and intrapersonal effectiveness, personal health and safety, post-secondary planning and readiness, and other developmental needs.
  • Teach the school guidance curriculum components through the use of effective instructional strategies and planned structured groups considering diverse student populations and needs for differentiated instruction.
  • Implement remediation practices to assist students in coping with problem situations or unwise choices. Identify precipitating and antecedent factors, effective and ineffective approaches to dealing with the circumstances, and provide feedback to guide future decisions.
  • Provide continued support to students in need through individual counseling, small group counseling, consultation, or referral to services outside the school or district.
  • Assist individual students and their parents or guardians in monitoring their academic, career, personal, and social development as they progress in school.
  • Collect, summarize, and interpret testing data to plan, create interventions, guide students, and address specific student needs.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze information about individuals through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources, to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics, for vocational and educational planning.
  • Determine and communicate class placements for new and returning students.
  • Assist with administering state assessments.
  • Serve as a core member of the crisis response team including practicing non-violent crisis intervention
  • Serve as a Local Educational Agency (LEA) representative during Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) meetings.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of other services, within the school or outside the school, available to students and their families.
  • Orient new students to the overall school program.
  • Consult with teachers and administration.
  • Actively participates on school committees, including attendance at staff meetings.
  • Participate with teachers in the development and modification of the department curriculum.
  • Cooperate with administrators in the development and modification of the school curriculum.
  • Provide for parent education through different resources.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law and regulations and board policy.
  • Work in close collaboration with administrators.
  • Adhere to legal, ethical, and professional standards for school counselors including current professional standards of competence and practice.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Motion : Frequent keyboarding and use of mouse, occasional reaching

Lifting : Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds), occasional lifting of heavy

objects

Environment : Primarily indoors

Mental Demands : Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress,

solve problems, Make decisions
