Majestic Adventures offers summer camps as well as year-round programs in Bellingham & Seattle, Washington. Our camp counselors are called “Quest Leaders.” Quest Leaders lead the children on a fantasy adventure using an experiential live-action role-playing game and our fearsome (but perfectly safe) foam swords. Being a Quest Leader at Majestic Adventures offers the opportunity to work with children and/or teens in a creative and meaningful job. This is an outdoor work environment with a team of communicative and supportive coworkers. Quest Leaders focus on creating a fun roleplaying environment, while facilitating the experiential education goals of ethical reasoning, self-esteem, critical thinking, social skills, fitness, and teamwork. Duties

  • Create a safe and welcoming environment for K-12 youth that prioritizes fun.
  • Lead groups of up to 6 campers on multi-day adventures where they are the heroes of the story.
  • Empower campers by respecting their agency, offering them challenges, and celebrating their triumphs.
  • Face off against campers in light-touch boffer combat.
  • Teach and enforce safety procedures to ensure the physical and emotional safety of campers and staff.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff and supervisors to solve problems and create opportunities for growth.
  • Communicate with families about their children’s experience and needs.
  • Maintain paperwork, including, but not limited to behavior forms, health forms, and character sheets.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and/or teens
  • Improvisational acting and storytelling skills
  • High energy and physical fitness for hiking and swashbuckling
  • Friendly with a sense of humor to create a fun, welcoming environment
  • An appreciation for the fantasy genre (we play a fantasy-themed live-action roleplaying game with the kids)
  • A willingness to learn and practice non-coercive leadership
  • Great communication skills
  • 18 years of age and older by the time summer camp begins

Also Helpful

  • Experience playing and/or leading roleplaying games (live-action or tabletop)
  • Conflict resolution skills, team building, and leadership skills
  • Training in therapy or childhood education
  • Martial arts, swordsmanship, arts and crafts

Workload and Schedule

Summer positions are open for part-time employment ~32 hours/week (9:15am-3:30pm Mon-Fri). Fridays require working an additional 30-60 minutes at the end of the day (paperwork). We are looking for a couple of new staff to join our merry band of returning staff. Our camps run from June 16th through August 27th.

Opportunities for employment are possible for Quest Leaders throughout the school year in our After School Programs and Day Camps on school holidays. After school Quest Leaders are paid at the same rate, with roughly 15 hours of work available each week. Applicants who apply by March 2nd and are available for training March 31st - April 11th are eligible to begin work in Spring 2025. Applicants interested in year-round work will be especially considered.

Further Notes

Once hired, all staff must have a social security number for being an employee, and all will have a background check done on them. We require all staff to be mandatory reporters of child abuse (if you suspect abuse in the home environment or elsewhere, you are required to report on it).
