PARALEGAL
Purpose: To provide support to the legal team with respect to business initiatives pursued by MLBPI. This position supports a broad range of legal and general commercial matters. A proactive, solution-oriented and collaborative approach, attention to detail and superior analytical skills are essential. Significant experience is a must.
Responsibilities:
• Assist in managing transaction flow, including with respect to inquiries on the status of agreements and negotiations, and development of internal processes and procedures.
• Operational and administrative support of the legal team including taking a leadership role in managing and updating the internal legal trackers and departmental records, organizing contract files, sending DocuSign, and following-up with all key stakeholders regarding status of projects and agreements to ensure timely and accurate execution.
• Proactively assist in the development and implementation of improvements to current contract processes.
• Assist on trademark related matters, including with respect to deadlines and applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Assist on enforcement matters, including compiling evidence of infringing materials.
• Develop and maintain master calendar of key dates, legal and business.
• Gather information and conduct initial research on requested subjects.
• Assist in drafting and reviewing (with attorney oversight) standard form agreements, such as confidentiality agreements, vendor agreements, consulting agreements, highlight agreements, schedules, statements of work, and other contract matters, including communications with licensees, as appropriate.
• Manage certain deliverables in connection with all executed licensing agreements, including with respect to tracking insurance-related obligations.
• Provide guidance to the quality assurance team, including as related to license agreement terms.
• Follow up with staff to ensure timely responses to questions from legal and that documents are returned from partners in a timely manner.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• College degree with excellent academic credentials
• 4 years of contracts management, paralegal, or other comparable experience within a law firm or in-house legal department, with responsibility for reviewing and drafting the legal terms of a broad range of standard commercial contracts.
• Proficiency working with MS Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and project management platforms.
• Experience with driving legal process improvement and simplification, including the ability to create new procedures and legal workflows.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Effective research skills
• Knowledge and experience in licensing, sports, media, and entertainment preferred but not required.
• Ability to work independently, but with a firmly held view in success as a team.
• Strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills
• Prior experience supporting a heavy volume of commercial transactions in a fast-paced environment.
