JOB TITLE: K-12 Online Tutor II
REPORTS TO: WorldOver International Program Coordinator
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $22-$31.00 per hour
POSITION OVERVIEW
Online tutors provide individual or small group support and instruction in a virtual setting. Tutor II’s will communicate with learners verbally and visually, use a digital whiteboard, support foundational skills, assist with classwork and homework assignments, and share resources in a secure fashion.
A tutor works with learners and enables them to perform at a higher level academically. Additionally, a tutor will work with learners to improve targeted test-taking skills, note taking skills and further elaborate on concepts learned in the classroom. They aim to assist learners and promote a deeper understanding of course materials and can provide assistance in specialized fields of instruction.
Live online: the learner has a live connection with the tutor, for example during a question and answer session. During live, online sessions, tutors may complete the following duties;
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Schedule tutoring sessions.
- Be prepared and on time. Coordinate with students to obtain concepts or specific course material they may need help with prior to meeting.
- Have a reliable internet connection, a working camera/microphone, and maintain a Zoom environment free of distractions.
- Provide parents/guardians or teachers feedback.
- If there is a behavior issue and you need support, engage WorldOver administration in a timely manner.
- Be proactive in maintaining a consistent schedule, providing advance notice for cancellations, etc.
- Answer learners’ questions related to the course content.
- Resolve technical or connectivity issues.
- Reply to learners' messages.
- Use email, discussion forums, audio and video conferencing to communicate with learners.
- Maintain required records
- Host tutoring sessions between 30-60 minutes each via Zoom
- Recognizes the relationship between social-emotional learning and academic performance and shows an ability to teach the “whole child.”
- Administer pre and post academic assessments and skills tests to new assigned learners, review and provide feedback to both the learner and parents as needed.
- Proficient in applying MTSS techniques to advance learners progress and skills in an efficient and relevant manner.
- Provide excellent parent updates and progress reports, working closely with the learner support team to ensure the best academic outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Communicate with others to exchange information in a timely manner, within 24 hours, if possible (by Telephone/Email/Zoom)
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- Adjusting or moving objects up to 30 pounds in all directions.
- Ability to work in situations involving the need to make informed and quick decisions.
- Writing professionally both by hand and utilizing computer software.
- Dealing and navigating professionally through high-stress situations.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or teaching credential preferred, but minimum of three years tutoring experience in a specialized field would suffice.
- DOJ Live Scan Clearance required.
- Experience assessing the progress of assigned learners to ensure effective processes.
- Passion and excitement for the subject being taught.
- Education in teaching methodology, theory and processes.
- Theoretical and practical understanding of the subject to be taught.
- Personal accountability and reliability when scheduling sessions with parents and learners.
- Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable, and cooperative with a sense of humor.
