What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Manager -Architectural Metals position at Maker Table Metal Inc?
Job Summary
You will be a key member of our team that is expected to complete construction projects on time and on budget. We are a growing shop that is constantly looking for new ways to manage our workforce and increase the quality in our shop. You will be expected to do your daily tasks and look for opportunities to make your position more efficient. We work on large projects for large companies and they have big expectations. You will be the center of the wagon wheel managing customer expectations, dealing with design teams, updating our drafters with the latest changes, keeping the fabrication shop fed with material and managing the install team. Your job is mainly communication and can be boiled down to 4 key areas; manpower, material, equipment and documentation.
Manpower
- Assign scope items to the drafting team in the right order to keep them working on the right projects at the right time
- Update our MRP software (Odoo) with a description of each scope item so the fabrication team knows when items are due and how many hours they have budgeted for each activity. Estimating will provide the hours for you to input.
- Schedule the installers to the right place at the right time.
- Notify the shop when overtime is required in advance so they can plan their personal lives accordingly
- Produce internal orders to notify the laser and powder coating operations when items are due so they can plan accordingly with other production.
Material
- Order raw materials for each scope item and keep them within the budget. Budget will be provided by estimating for every material required so you have a clear target to hit and don’t have to wonder if you are meeting expectations. We want to share all of the information with you so you can make great decisions.
- Order hardware for the shop and install team. We call it making a “care package”. You will be expected to get the miscellaneous materials that accompany each scope item and organize them for the different teams. This includes epoxy, screws, paint, powder coat, PPE for different conditions and caster wheels.
- Submit finish samples to the customers for approval and order the correct materials to recreate that finish on final products.
- Review and submit shop drawings to the customers for approval and then relay those prints to the fabrication team so they know what they are building and how it goes together.
- Track lead times on material and communicate delays to customers and the production team.
Equipment
- Rent the correct aerial work platforms, scissor lifts, roustabouts, cranes and scaffolding to safely access the work performed.
- Communicate production needs to reserve time on our crucial equipment like the laser, press brake, saw line and powder coating to ensure there are no conflicts with other projects.
- Look for bottlenecks in production that are limited by the available equipment or technology. This includes getting everyone a set of grinders, looking for people sharing tools and order another so everyone has the tools they need and no one is waiting. It also involves buying faster computers, downloading apps to test and adding tablets to work stations.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare a weekly summary of all work performed and sit down with the owner and estimator to review what is going well and what needs extra attention.
- Create, track and manage the schedule for all of your projects and keep everyone informed from customers to employees.
Skills
- Ability to read and interpret architectural blueprints, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, floor plans and finish schedules.
- Experienced with commercial construction management principles and practices.
- Extensive knowledge of project management techniques and methodologies.
- Experience with metal fabrication and finishing
- Understand and believe in the OSHA safety principles and guidelines, we don't cut corners with safety and will not tolerate unsafe work practices or culture.
- Creativity, we value people with an inquisitive mind that like to find novel solutions to problems other people have overlooked or simply accept as the status quo
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to challenges.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with all teams inside and outside of the shop.
- Intellectual humility, be willing to accept what you don't know and have confidence in areas where you have experience and knowledge.
- Grit, be the kind of person that is energized by challenges and move forward with curiosity and an indomitable will to complete the task at hand.
