The Making a Change Group (MACG) supports individuals and families in the city of Chester, PA and surrounding municipalities striving to achieve positive change for themselves, their families, and their communities. We accomplish this through programs focused on 1) youth mentoring, 2) violence prevention, and 3) multi-level support for families as they work to achieve financial, educational, vocational, and personal goals.
Via the GVINE (Gun Violence Intervention Network & Empowerment) Program, Making a Change Group provides: (1) street outreach and violence interruption; (2) school-based violence prevention and intervention; (3) identification and engagement of as well as tailored supports for individuals who have committed a gun violation, have been victimized by gun violence or are at risk of perpetration gun violence; and (4) trauma-informed care to support gun violence victims/survivors and those in their immediate circles. The target population for this program is youth 10-21 years of age.
GVINE School-Based Youth Development Specialist is a full-time, non-exempt, position. This position reports to the GVINE School-Based Program Coordinator and works within our school-based, GVINE program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support identification and engagement with program participants
- Serve as a mentor for identified youth, developing strong, nurturing relationships with young people and providing strong leadership and guidance, meeting with youth at a minimum of 30 minute per week
- Carry a caseload of 20-40 youth participants
- Facilitate small and large group workshops focused on social-emotional skill development and using curriculum derived from 40 Developmental Assets
- Maintain communication and documentation of the mentoring sessions
- Ensure that youth stay engaged in programming
- Participate in regular supervision and team meetings
- Other duties as assigned.
- Support MACG events, as requested
- Collaborate with Program Coordinator, Case Manager , Interventionist and community partners for referrals to other youth–based programming
- Complete requested reports & timesheets in a timely manner, ensuring time is tracked for GVINE and CV programs appropriately
- Participate in regular supervision and team meetings
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred
- 2-4 years of experience working with young people preferred
- Comfort in, experience with, and commitment to working with youth ages 10-24
- Experience working with you in a school-based context a plus
- Culturally sensitive
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrable interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate and engage with colleagues as well as outside constituents
- Self-motivated, with a demonstrated ability to take initiative, multi-task, anticipate needs and exercise independent, sound judgment.
- Strong time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and video conferencing software required.
- PA Driver’s License and access to a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage
- Successful completion of child abuse, FBI, and criminal clearances

Pay: $38,000.00 - $41,000.00 per year
