Malace|HR is seeking an experienced Operating Engineer Critical Environments to support our Data Center operations. This role is essential in ensuring the continuous operation and maintenance of mission-critical systems, with a strong emphasis on flexibility and teamwork. While scheduled shift rotations occur every 23 months, all candidates must remain flexible to cover absences (PTO) or reductions in staff as needed. We are one team united to maintain 24x7 operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate, monitor, maintain, and repair critical systems and equipment to ensure 100% uptime.
Maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life safety systems including:
HVAC, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, boilers, water heaters, plumbing systems
Electrical systems (UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, generators, switchgear, transformers)
Fire/Life Safety systems and building controls
Record readings, adjust equipment, and ensure optimal performance across systems.
Respond to building management system (BMS) alarms promptly and efficiently.
Analyze equipment performance issues and determine corrective actions.
Maintain compliance with hazardous material handling, safety, and regulatory standards.
Manage incidents and potential risks to the facilitys critical systems.
Use CMMS and work order systems to manage maintenance tasks and service tickets.
Interface with tenants, vendors, and contractors in a professional and responsive manner.
Participate in the sites emergency response procedures and protocols.
Perform additional duties as required by management.
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED
Minimum 4 years of related technical experience in building or data center operations
Experience with emergency generators and switchgear systems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to read and interpret technical documents, safety rules, and regulations
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)
Flexibility to work rotating shifts, holidays, and respond to emergencies
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in critical environments/data centers
Familiarity with:
Corrigo, MCIM, Salesforce, Zendesk, or ServiceNow
UPS and power distribution systems
Prior hands-on experience with BMS and vendor management tools
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk large campus environments regularly
Frequent physical activity including bending, climbing, kneeling, lifting (up to 50 lbs)
Comfortable working at heights, climbing ladders (up to 30 ft), and navigating rooftops
Must be capable of climbing a ladder with a 300-lb weight limit
