Malta House of Care provides free primary care for uninsured adults in the Greater Hartford Region through mobile and fixed sites. Malta has a talented and collaborative team that values diversity and excellence in providing care to our patients.
Malta House is seeking a mission-driven development professional to help mobilize volunteers, partners, and donors to improve the overall health and well-being of uninsured adults in Greater Hartford by providing free primary care health services.
Malta is dedicated to combating the striking disparities in health care access in Greater Hartford through its mobile clinic that makes weekly visits to medically underserved neighborhoods in Hartford. Malta’s easily recognized white 40-foot van, equipped with a committed medical team, serves as the ultimate safety net for nearly 1,400 residents in Hartford neighborhoods categorized as economically distressed and medically underserved. Services are also provided in Malta’s state-of-the-art medical office in the Asylum Hill neighborhood in Hartford on the campus of the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
The patients served are a diverse, multilingual, and marginalized population drawing from many cultures who have no other options for primary medical care and who consider Malta their only medical home. Patients represent more than 50 nationalities and speak at least 30 languages, including Spanish, Afrikaans, Portuguese, Urdu, and Vietnamese. Every patient is welcomed and served regardless of race, ethnicity or socioeconomic status.
Summary
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role is responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting individuals with an emphasis on gifts exceeding $5,000.
This position personally identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major gift donors and prospects in accordance with performance targets set. The position fosters collaborative relationships with the Board and staff by developing engagement strategies and conducting solicitation efforts to move relationships through the donor continuum.
Responsibilities:
· Develops and maintains a portfolio of qualified leadership and major gift donors.
· Meets an annual individual fundraising goal– including set number of personal visits, major gift proposals submissions, major gifts closed, and dollars raised.
· Identifies major gift prospects and effectively solicits and cultivates from the Malta House of Care existing donor base as well as from independent research of outside sources.
· Provides ongoing stewardship for all individual and organizational major donors.
· Works with other members of the leadership team to create a comprehensive development program. This includes growing annual giving in order to identify major gift prospects.
· Develops and maintains productive and professional relationships with volunteers, Board members, business and community leaders.
· Prepares individualized fundraising presentations and proposals for the solicitation of major gift prospects and delivers them personally to potential donors.
· Prepares compelling written proposal materials and presentations to prospects and donors and implements appropriate stewardship strategies.
· Maintains data integrity in donor database with routine and timely entry of contact notes, updating of proposals, and proactive management of relationships.
· Other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Qualifications:
· At least five years' experience in a Major Gifts Officer role with a demonstrated track record securing major gifts from individuals.
· Significant face to face experience soliciting and closing five and six-figure gifts.
· Familiarity with Greater Hartford/Connecticut/New England funding landscape preferred.
· An outstanding communicator – capable of determining how best to reach different audiences and executing communication based on that understanding.
· Must be creative, persuasive, capable of managing multiple tasks under deadline, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-performing, and entrepreneurial environment.
· Commitment to goal attainment, high degree of initiative, and ability to motivate and engage high-level donors; a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
· Experience with Microsoft Office and donor database and fundraising software.
· Public speaking and presentation skills
· A strong work ethic, critical thinking skills and demonstrated good judgement with high standards of ethical conduct.
SALARY/BENEFITS
The position is a full-time position. The salary range for this position is $97,000-$107,000 and commensurate with experience. Travel requirements 30%, including some evenings and weekends. The position is expected to practice ethical fundraising and handle donor relationships with discretion and diplomacy. This position may be a hybrid position with remote work allowed for a portion of the work week.
