Job Purpose and Reporting Structure: The Procurement Barley Specialist, under the direction of the North American Barley Manager, is tasked with various operations related to direct purchasing, procurement and logistics of raw materials which include contract management and, order execution and the accounting and reporting of material movements.
Essentials Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist N.A. Barley Manager in all day to day activity
- Assist Western Barley Program and Logistics Supervisor in Great Falls in all day to day activities
- Assist Raw Material Officer in day to day activities
- Maintain detailed and accurate production history information such as planting dates, seeding rates, significant weather events, harvest dates and off field quality data as well as periodic bin sample analysis and updates, on all producer production contracts.
- Assist in the development of barley origination program and producer contracting
- Support variety program development by providing production feedback and plot maintenance and tours
- Manage and create all material purchase orders; Setup contracts and maintain pricing in SAP for raw materials
- Support the negotiation and contract with growers (farmers) and commercial suppliers by product materials
- In conjunction with Quality and Production, support the defining and implement coordination of acceptable barley specifications on a crop year basis.
- Collaborate with Transportation and Logistics with rail lines regarding shipments and setting up car spots and release of cars.
- Support delivery compliance targets, control, and measurement systems with Barley Logistics Supevisor.
- Maintain and track logistics/communications/trading information and other needs
- Maintaining quality control, inventory, and records for of all inbound barley
- Maintain barley delivery reports, producer assembly sheets, and input data into the MENA information system.
- Continually evaluate and develop the process for inspection, acceptance, or rejection of barley to MENA specifications
- Assist in creative market strategies and contracting options.
- Collect and update farmer returns per acre and other competitive information.
- Capture additional revenue in by product and seed programs
- Support barley deliveries from the farm to Great Falls
- Match quality to production planning with logistics to meet production goals
- Understand farm capabilities and goals (e.g. Bin sites/weather restrictions)
- Other duties may be assigned by management as needed
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred: Supply Chain, Business
- 5 years of procurement experience; Prefer: Agricultural manufacturing industry experience
- ERP experience; Prefer: SAP experience,
- Detail Oriented - Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.
- Communication (Oral & Written) – ability to effectively communicate to business partners, management, and third-party service providers
- Problem Solving - Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems.
- Ability to prioritize and organize workload across multiple projects
- Ability to manage conflict, develop and grow relationships
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
