Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Line Cook to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate is a skilled cook with a deep understanding of food preparation and a passion for creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. You will be responsible for crafting high-quality meals, managing your kitchen station, and ensuring exceptional customer service throughout the cafe's changing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation:
- Preparing ingredients (chopping vegetables, butchering meat, etc.).
- Following recipes and adhering to portion control.
- Preparing sauces, dressings, and other components.
Cooking:
- Operating various kitchen equipment (grills, fryers, ovens, etc.).
- Cooking menu items to order, ensuring quality and consistency.
- Timing food preparation to ensure dishes are served promptly.
Station Management:
- Setting up and stocking the assigned station with necessary supplies.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Monitoring food inventory and reporting shortages.
Food Safety and Sanitation:
- Adhering to all food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Properly storing and handling food.
- Cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work surfaces.
Teamwork and Communication:
- Communicating effectively with other kitchen staff.
- Following instructions from the chef or sous chef.
- Working efficiently as part of a team.
Other Responsibilities:
- Set up and stock workstation with minimal supervision
- Executing menu items from start to finish.This includes but not limited to preparation of ingredients, butchery of proteins, cooking and plating of menu items.
- Working with seasonal ingredients
- Participating in the preparation and development of new menu items
- Perfecting your existing skills while learning new techniques and building new skill set
- Master more than one specific station such as: Grill, Sautee, Fryer or Garde Manger
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
Cooking Experience:
- Proven experience as a line cook or in a similar role.
- Knowledge of various cooking techniques and methods.
Food Safety Knowledge:
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation principles.
- Food handler's certification (may be required).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in using kitchen equipment.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions.
Personal Skills:
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Team player.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
