Early Childhood Education Program Home Visitor Job Description

Program: Early Head Start

Reports to: Early Childhood Educational/Disabilities Coordinator

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Educational Coordinator, the Home Visitor functions as the educator to assigned pregnant women or children three month through three years of age; promotes each child’s growth and development by planning and implementing developmentally appropriate experiences; creates an environment in which children can develop personal relationships, experiment, make choices, solve problems, and develop age-appropriate social and self-help skills. Plans and participates in parent education and parent involvement activities. Works to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly physical environment. Supports and applies the mission and goals of Dominican Women’s Development Center.

Qualifications:

A minimum Associate’s degree in ECE or related field, and experience with infant/toddlers in a group setting or home-base setting. Preferred experience in home-based model or Early Head Start setting. Must be bilingual and possess computer knowledge.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with an assigned group of pregnant women and infants/toddlers; assesses the individual needs, strengths, and interests regularly. Plans and provides age and developmentally appropriate activities and experiences designed for all areas of a child’s development. Prepares and provides materials that are concrete, real and relevant to the children and their interests; prepares the environment for children to learn through active exploration and interaction with adults, other children, and materials.
  • Conduct weekly 1.5-hour visits to assigned families.
  • In accordance with prescribed time schedules, administers initial developmental and other screenings of all assigned children. In collaboration with parents, develops appropriate goals and objectives for each child. Conducts on-going assessment of each child’s growth and development and update each child’s goals and objectives regularly.
  • Utilizes developmental screening and observations to identify children who may need additional services; informs educational coordinator of the potential need. Participates in case management meetings, child study team meetings, IFSP meetings and other related activities. Incorporates IFSP goals and objectives into the home base program.
  • Promotes parent involvement in the child’s education and well being. Provides training and guidance for parent and other volunteers; Makes a minimum of weekly home visits with each child’s family and holds 3 parent conferences each year.
  • Assist parents to organize and implement parent activities; encourages, facilitates, and supports parental involvement in all aspects of the Early Head Start Program. Assist with transition to Head Start or other childcare placements.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records, including child observation, individualization, lesson plans, attendance, parent participation, in-kind contributions, and others as directed.
  • Meets regularly with team. Attends case conferences, parent conferences, center meetings, case reviews, IFSP/IEP meetings, staff meetings, parent meetings, in-service and pre-service meetings, and other meetings as directed.
  • Carries out authorized emergency and safety procedures and administer first aid.
  • Serves as a facilitator during socialization groups.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Pay: $39,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
