About This Position:

The Catering & Events Manager will operate within the Marketing Department, and alongside the Operations team to grow the channel, securing new customers, and turning them into repeat and loyal customers. They embody the ethos of the Mamaleh’s brand - hospitality and care from start to finish - in taking our food outside the walls of the restaurant. The Catering & Events Manager is organized, efficient and carries excellent communication skills, both written, in person and on the phone, ensuring that the planning and execution of catering orders and events are running smoothly and according to agreed upon systems. The Catering & Events Manager should have a passion for exceptional service, a deep appreciation for Jewish cuisine and culture, and an excitement for making events memorable, whether it's an intimate gathering, life-cycle celebration (Bris/Baby Naming, B. Mitzvah, Wedding, Shiva), corporate gathering, or something totally new!

Responsibilities and Expectations:

CATERING & EVENTS COORDINATION

  • Booking & Facilitating Catering & Private Events
  • Ensure all guests enjoy the experience - from outreach, to planning, to follow up of catering and events!
  • Hospitality is crucial - always looking to turn strangers into customers and customers into loyal customers. Mamaleh’s may be a fast casual concept, but it is our care and commitment to excellent service and creating of an experience that sets us apart
  • Respond to inquiries/leads quickly, assisted by an out of office reply communicating working hours
  • Be proactive in guest communication, using all methods to secure the booking
  • Communicate clearly and warmly with all prospective and confirmed guests regarding event logistics and restaurant policies
  • Communicate clearly and efficiently with all internal stakeholders to ensure the success of catering and event orders from inception to completion, including the administrative tasks associated with each order
  • Coordinating Non Private Events On and Off-site
  • Facilitate communication and planning between the various parties involved in production of the event, including but not limited to: restaurant managers, vendors, licensing board
  • Leading Ongoing Outreach and Development Projects
  • Secure Catering & Private Event opportunities via outbound communication, partnership with Marketing (Social/Newsletter/other), and personal and industry connections
  • Grassroots strategies and pro-active outreach to potential customers with a focus on building relationships and driving repeating orders. These groups include, but are not limited to: Temples, Hillels, colleges, local businesses, etc.

  • Continue to build the Mamaleh's wholesale department with the Ownership team with outreach to new partners

MANAGEMENT

  • Lead by example in all areas:
  • Clear and professional communication with other managers, other departments, all hourly employees, and guests
  • Exceptional work ethic, strong attention to detail, and a collaborative attitude
  • Self motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Positive work ethic

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Keep menus up to date and pricing correct across platforms (printed menus, ezCater, Toast, Tripleseat, email templates, website, etc.)
  • Keep catering software up to date and accurate
  • Maintain accounts payable for the department with help from accounting as needed
  • Manage and maintain relationships with delivery partners and other preferred vendors
  • Assist in managing customer service responses and leading all guest recovery efforts including but not limited to online feedback, guest complaints, and immediate service recovery
  • Attend weekly manager meetings as needed

Skills and Requirements:

The following qualifications are required:

  • Detail oriented, organized and professional
  • 2 years of catering and events management experience required
  • Tripleseat (or comparable - CVent, Salesforce, etc) experience
  • Comprehensive food and beverage knowledge
  • Exceptional service and hospitality skills
  • High level computer and software literacy, including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced, and dynamic environment with high expectations for quality of service
  • Self-motivated and able to think and adapt quickly - must have the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and move with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to train and supervise, and to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to understand the activity in the department
  • Flexibility in scheduling

The following qualifications are strongly preferred:

  • Commitment: One year commitment
  • Education: College level
  • Certification: Tips or 21 Training; CPR; ChokeSaver; Crowd Manager; Servsafe
  • High volume, fast-paced restaurant experience
  • Experience with POS and Reservations systems
  • Spanish speaking
  • Familiarity with Jewish Culture and Cuisine

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a device, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in a restaurant environment with a quiet to moderate noise level. The physical demands for this position are seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for 5 to 10 hours, bending, and moving intermittently during working hours. These physical requirements may be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodations.

Schedule Expectations:

  • Managers are regularly scheduled for a 5-day, 50 hour work week
  • This is generally a Monday-Friday position, but the manager will be expected to work some holidays and weekends, especially when there is a special event scheduled
  • Managers will occasionally be asked to work additional days to cover staffing shortages and special events, but would always receive a vacation day if it pushed the work week to six days

Since opening, we’ve received much acclaim, including Bon Appetit Magazine's 50 best new restaurants in the country, Boston Magazine's Best Deli, and become a beloved part of the Boston community.
