Summary: The 1st Class Welder is responsible for overseeing and performing all welding activities at MAN, including in-house and subcontracted work, while ensuring compliance with industry standards. This role involves programming automated laser cladding repairs, developing and qualifying welding procedures, maintaining weld documentation, and auditing subcontractors. Additionally, the position requires monitoring welding operations, conducting inspections, and ensuring proper maintenance of welding equipment to support seamless repair operations.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Oversee and/or perform all welding activities at Brookshire, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Review weld callouts on technical drawings and specifications for accuracy and adherence to requirements.
Prepare and issue detailed weld inspection reports.
Maintain and update the weld database, including welder continuity records, WPS, and WPQR.
Assist in developing and qualifying welding procedures (WPS) and procedure qualifications (WPQR) for various techniques, including laser cladding, MIG, TIG, and SAW.
Select, audit, and qualify subcontractors for welding operations in both shop and field environments.
Perform or coordinate preventive maintenance and quality control measures for all welding equipment.
Maintain flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Support all necessary activities to ensure smooth and efficient repair operations.
Education:
Certified Welder with GTAW certifications and/or a minimum of 10 years of proven experience in the field required.
Experience/Qualifications/Skills:
Extensive hands-on experience with TIG and SAW automated welding, WPS/WPQR creation, weld inspection, as well as rigging and lifting operations required.
KUKA Robot Arm Programming Certification preferred.
Experience in PQR/WPS development preferred.
Proficiency in the GMAW welding process preferred.
International Welding Engineer certification strongly preferred.
Excellent communication skills, with a strong command of the English language, both verbal and written.
Possess a sufficient quantity of professional hand tools to perform daily assignments effectively.
