We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Tribal Administrator to lead and manage the daily operations of our tribal government—working closely with the Tribal Council, department heads, and community members to bring our vision, values, and strategic priorities to life. Position Summary:

As Tribal Administrator serving as the chief administrative officer for the Tribe, responsibilities include overall coordination, implementation, and management of Tribal government operations. This position ensures that Tribal programs and services are delivered effectively and in accordance with the direction of the Tribal Council, Tribal Constitution, and applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Management
  • Provide direct oversight to all Tribal departments, programs, and administrative staff.
  • Implement policies, directives, and strategic goals set by the Tribal Council.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between Tribal Council, departments, and community members.
  • Budget & Finance
  • Prepare and manage the annual Tribal government budget in collaboration with the Finance Department.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure compliance with grant and funding requirements.
  • Seek funding opportunities and oversee grant applications, reporting, and compliance.
  • Policy & Governance
  • Assist the Tribal Council in the development and review of policies, ordinances, and resolutions.
  • Ensure Tribal operations comply with Tribal, federal, and state laws.
  • Attend and contribute to Tribal Council meetings, providing regular reports and updates.
  • Human Resources
  • Oversee recruitment, supervision, evaluation, and professional development of Tribal staff.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, employment law, and Tribal employment preference.
  • Community Engagement
  • Foster transparent communication with Tribal members and maintain strong community relations.
  • Address community concerns and facilitate community input into Tribal governance and planning.
  • Intergovernmental Relations
  • Represent the Tribe in meetings with federal, state, local, and intertribal entities.
  • Maintain strong relationships with funding agencies and external partners.

Qualifications:

  • Qualifications

1. Administrative principles and methods, including goal setting, program and budget development and implementation and employee supervision.

2. Principles, practices, and programs related to the administration of Tribal functions.

3. Applicable legal guidelines and standards affecting Tribal administration.

4. Principles and practices of budget development and administration.

5. Funding sources impacting program and service development.

6. Social, political, and environmental issues influencing program administration.

7. Principles and practices of contract administration and evaluation.

: Master’s degree is preferred. Minimum of a BA/BS degree from an accredited four-year college or university in public administration, business administration or related field; and, three to five years of experience in a management or administrative capacity which involved substantial contact with tribal governments or similar public agency settings. As required by the HBPI Administrative Ordinance, must have experience in a Tribal form of government. Experience in working with Tribal membership and community organizations is desirable.

: Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
