What you’ll do: You’ll directly supervise the transition clerk, and transition coordinator. Performs moderately complex administrative work. Work involves supporting transitional coordinator by ensuring the Transitional Coordinator is assisting with planning and preparing clients for life after release by providing support, building connections with resources and case management. Ensuring compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinates release activity with the Correctional Institutions and Parole Divisions; establishes a communication network with Transitional Treatment Centers; and interviews Inmates to gather information to assess service needs.
- Participates in treatment team activities and the Quality Assurance Process in order to maintain professional standards of individual care, develops and implements service plans to meet Inmate needs; and identifies problem areas, service gaps, and areas that are barriers to services for Inmates.
- Maintains a current list of licensed and approved substance abuse treatment service providers; facilitates communication with the Peer Support Network throughout the state; and coordinates service provider activities.
- Prepares and maintains reports, case files, and records of Inmates referred or placed in transitional programming.
- Problem solving and decision making
- Liaison/ Communication between PFCMOD, RPD and RID.
- Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
- Maintain accountability of staff, Inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Sixty (60) semester hours from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or United States Department of Education (USDE). Two (2) years full-time, wage-earning case processing, counseling, Inmate case management, or social work experience. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
Post Hire Requirements:
Must complete Correctional Awareness Training (CAT) prior to inmate contact. Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and pass an annual background check, both of which must be approved by TDCJ.
