Director of Children’s Ministry
Responsible to: Executive Pastor
Status: Full time, Salaried
General Position Description: The Director of Children’s Ministry is responsible for the ministering to children and their families through the implementation of a ministry strategy that inspires wonder about God and builds a foundation of faith that will last a lifetime.
Qualifications:
- University graduate, preferably with a complimentary major to enhance ministry to children and their families
- Seminary education, other complementary master’s degree preferred
- Demonstrated ability to be a subject matter authority at Manassas Baptist Church as it relates to children, child development, and ministering to children and families. Continue to study and grow in knowledge and practical ministry strategies current with culture, trends, and societal changes
- Demonstrated ability to identify, mobilize, and equip volunteer leaders to lead and safeguard children.
- Proficiency with using computers, email, word processing and other office-related skills to be a good communicator. Proficiency with attendance databases, and check-in software.
- Ability to regularly pass background checks, and random drug screening.
Ministry Specific Responsibilities:
- Seek and discern the calling of God for this ministry area of our church, and how to expand Christ’s Kingdom at MBC. Cast the vision for a vibrant Children’s Ministry that will allow children to experience God, not just learn about Him.
- Oversee all children’s ministry ventures at Manassas Baptist Church. Be the warm and welcoming face of our church to children and parents at MBC and throughout the Manassas community.
- Develop a dynamic leadership team of staff and volunteers.
- Plan, organize, staff, and coordinate engaging programs for children and families throughout the year, including a summer VBS program. Plan and Execute at least two outreach events for the church each calendar year, specifically around Easter, and a Fall event around the end of October.
- Disciple the children and families of MBC well, by helping them establish and grow their relationships with Jesus through age-appropriate materials, curriculum, activities, and other programs offered by the children’s ministry.
- Implement a consistent, age-appropriate curriculum across the children’s ministry, including Sunday lessons and take-home activities.
- Maintain background checks required for ministry area staff and volunteers. Develop and implement policies for the continued safety and security of children, including but not limited to effective use of check-in systems.
- Utilize exceptional communication skills to engage effectively with groups across MBC. Must effectively communicate with parents, children, and MBC staff through both verbal and written channels. Use effective modes of communication including emails, Facebook, Instagram, mailings, etc. designed to keep families engaged and informed of current programs, projects, and opportunities.
OTHER DUTIES (not exhaustive):
1. Provide or arrange pastoral or support services to families and children.
2. Partner with the Director of Youth/Youth Pastor for a smooth transition of children into the Youth Ministry.
3. Cooperate with the staff team to carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
