General Information
Work Location : Water Laboratory - 17915 Waterline Road, Bradenton, Florida 34212
Work Hours : Monday - Friday (27 hours per week).
Serving in a temporary, non-supervisory capacity, assists in herbicide mixing and application work in the control and monitoring of aquatic and other weeds and plants. Work is performed under close supervision and in strict accordance with pertinent rules and procedures.

Job Description
Essential Functions

Prepares vehicle (truck or boat) for day's activities; safely operates vehicle from location to location; ensures vehicle is in good operating condition; washes and cleans vehicle and spray equipment.
Under close supervision of a spray-licensed supervisor, fills spray tank; safely operates spray equipment in a manner prescribed by State law and departmental rules and regulations; correctly disposes of herbicide containers.
Operates hand and power equipment to remove plants from banks and other areas; cleans and maintains equipment in good working condition.
Performs a variety of other maintenance tasks as required.
May assist in picking up lake samples to analyze for algae; may assist in collecting lake and watershed samples for lab analysis, as required.
Understands and follows oral and written instructions; reads and clearly understands and follows directions, including labels and other pertinent written materials; understands and complies with safety rules and procedures in the use of tools, equipment and related materials.
Establishes and maintains effective courteous working relationships with others.
Performs other duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent certificate of competency.
Prior experience in the management and / or maintenance of lakes or ponds highly desired.
Valid Florida driver's license.
Must be able to swim a minimum of 100 yards.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
More
Prior commercial landscaping, horticultural, or groundskeeping experience desired.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Knowledge of mathematics sufficient to calculate quantities and determine proper ratio of materials used, with ability to apply safely.
Knowledge of the basic characteristics of hand and power tools and equipment used in the work, with the ability to safely operate.
Ability to perform strenuous work outside under varying weather conditions (including inclement) for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
