Reviews building permit applications for compliance with County resolutions, ordinances, policies, and procedures, as well as strict adherence to floodplain management and FEMA regulations. Responds to requests for information regarding floodplain management, always providing a high level of customer service. Provides guidance and training regarding floodplain management to other department personnel.
Working Conditions Indoor / Outdoor environment; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Requires the ability to identify colors.
Job Description
Essential Functions

Completes development reviews of pre-applications for building permits to ensure correctness and completeness. Works with applicants to resolve any issues prior to moving forward with the review process.
Conducts final Plat Review and sign off. Ensures notes and approvals, issues, and conditions are entered into computer system.
Meets with contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners on matters concerning permitting and floodplain regulations.
Answers questions regarding flood zones and related programs and policies from realtors, insurance agents, and the general public.
Processes requests for documents such, as Elevation Certificates, FEMA Letters of Map Revisions, and FIRMettes.
Provides floodplain management and compliance guidance and training to other department personnel.
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three (3) or more years of experience in a building department or similar regulatory agency, or as a construction contractor or related building construction position.
Certified Floodplain Manager certification required within one (1) year of hire or transfer into the position.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Good knowledge and understanding of computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties.
Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally and effectively with staff, building industry professionals, the general public, and other stakeholders.
Able to communicate information that requires explanation or interpretation.
Works under moderate supervision.
