General Information
Work Location: 1112 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, Florida, 34205
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Expected Starting Salary Range: $65,118.41 - $84,653.94Prepares, writes, and submits grant proposals to support Manatee County Health Services Section programs and initiatives. Responsible for pre- and post-award grant management, including seeking out grant funding opportunities, writing and applying for grants, data collection and reporting, and administering grants and contracts.
Working Conditions
Typical indoor office environment. Sitting for long periods of time, working on computer. Lifting equipment or supplies up to 25 pounds alone and up to 50 pounds with assistance. Position requires visual acuity and depth perception, as well as ability to hear and identify sounds. Occasionally required to work other than normal business hours.
Job Description
Essential Functions

Researches and identifies federal, state, nonprofit, or other grant opportunities. Generates high-quality proposals, narratives, applications, and supporting documents in response to solicitations consistent with all policies and procedures of Manatee County, and the requirements and guidelines of the funding agencies.
Reads and interprets requests for proposals and funding guidelines to determine appropriateness for Manatee County’s Health Service Section and how best to respond.
Generates revenues for Manatee County programs through timely submission of well-researched, well written, and well-documented grant proposals.
Researches, compiles, organizes, analyzes, and disseminates data and information for grant proposals.
Writes grant applications and coordinates the grant application or proposal process. Maintains files and a calendar of submissions, renewals, reports, funding projected and received, and other deadlines. Monitors status of submitted grants and follows up with funding agencies.
Establishes and maintains relationships with funders. Develops and organizes grant and proposal documentations with consistent style and formatting standards. Provides education and training regarding grant requirements to Health Services staff and assists in establishing grant delivery framework. Participates in occasional steering meetings to ensure deliverables are being met. Maintains knowledge and understanding of current best practices, trends, laws, and issues affecting area of expertise. Upon approval, attends educational events that will increase professional knowledge and be otherwise beneficial to the County.
Additional Duties
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications, or related field.
3 or more years of experience in grant writing, to include experience in corporate and foundation giving, major gifts, annual giving, and capital campaigns. Demonstrated experience writing successful proposals for competitive grants required.
A comparable combination of education, training, and work experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Valid driver’s license with Florida driver’s license within 30-days of hire.

Excellent knowledge and understanding of private, corporate, and governmental grant development and management.
Excellent knowledge and understanding of grant writing and grant and contract management.
Good research and data analysis skills.
Good knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job duties.
Good knowledge and understanding of computer applications and software programs required to perform job duties.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, including proofreading skills, in order to interact professionally and effectively with co-workers, management, community providers, community advocacy groups, and other stakeholders. Able to explain facts, policies, and practices.
Capable of working independently with general supervision.
