General Information
Work Location: Central Library, 1301 Barcarrota Boulevard, Bradenton, Florida 34205
Work Hours: Monday - Saturday, 40 hours per week. Schedule will vary based upon the needs of the library.
Expected Starting Hourly Range: $25.56 - $31.95
This classification performs a variety of technical/professional/supervisory duties in the Manatee County Public Library System. Supervision is exercised over library staff. Work involves working both with the public and behind the scenes, handling branch and/or section responsibilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Librarian III or higher level of management.
Job Description

Coordinates, plans, and oversees outreach services within the Library and the community. The Outreach Librarian strives to provide equitable access to library services to all members of the community by identifying under-served and at-risk populations, learning their needs, and developing and providing needed programs and services. Presents programs for all ages in a variety of non-library locations. Responsible for developing, planning, and promoting events for a diverse community. Acts as a liaison between the library, the community, and external community organizations.
Develops partnerships with local agencies to identify community needs and provide appropriate programs and services to underserved and at-risk communities. Speaks to school and community groups to provide instruction and information about library programs and services. Delivers age-appropriate materials to daycare sites, senior centers, independent and assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. Maintains a calendar of events and attendance records for outreach events. Compiles statistics from branches providing outreach and regularly reports on such to library administration.
Position requires significant interaction with the public and the ability to work independently with limited supervision. Frequent travel within the library system service area to provide outreach services also is required.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in library science from a university or college accredited by the American Library Association, with a minimum of three (3) years of library experience.
Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience, or one (1) year demonstrated experience overseeing projects or departmental functions, including task delegation and accountability.
Valid driver license required, with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire.

Knowledge of modern principles and practices of library science and of library materials, library organization, procedures, policies, aims and services.
Knowledge of automated systems with regard to library procedures and services. Knowledge of basic supervisory principles and practices.
Ability to perform library technical tasks and carry out assignments independently. Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with public and staff.
Ability to use and apply computer applications.
Ability to maintain discipline among patrons.
Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing.
Ability to work rotating schedules, including days, nights and weekends.
