General Information
Work Hours: Sunday - Saturday, 27 hours/week with variable daytime and evening hours
Note: Lakewood Ranch Library works on a 4-week rotation, working 8 hours on Saturdays and at least one (1) scheduled Sunday from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm is required
This classification performs various public library functions under professional librarian guidance. This is paraprofessional work involving responsibility for the assigned area of responsibility and may be required to assign and oversee the work of others.
Working Conditions
Indoor library environment. Extended periods of sitting and standing regularly required. High noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment and books up to 25 lbs. alone; up to 50 lbs. with assistance. Able to push book truck and shelve books. May be assigned to any Manatee County Public Library System location. Assigned schedule will include Saturday and evening hours.
Job Description

Interprets library policies and procedures to the general public and staff in a clear and tactful manner.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff and the general public.

May lead or assist with public computer classes and equipment/material instruction.
May participate in acquisition and cataloging functions.
May arrange branch exhibits and displays and programming for all age groups.
May prepare statistical and other monthly and/or annual reports.
Serves on in-house committees as required.
May perform interlibrary loan processing.
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
Minimum Qualifications
One (1) or more years of customer service experience.
Valid driver license required, with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire.

Prior library experience and shift lead/supervisory experience desired.
Some college coursework preferred.

Able to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions. Organizes own work and completes tasks within assigned timeframes. Able to resolve routine situations and problems.
General knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job duties.
General knowledge and understanding of computer applications and software programs required to perform job duties, including library-related software applications.
Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to be able to interact professionally and effectively with co-workers, management, the general public, and other stakeholders. Able to communicate information that requires explanation or interpretation.
Capable of working under moderate supervision.
Circulation - Transit
Drive county vehicle to deliver library materials within the different branches. Able to work independently without direct supervision.
Technical Services, Position M0995Assists County IT with installation, maintenance, routine troubleshooting and support for the library's hardware, software, and networks. Supports the library with entry-level technical work and identifies new products to implement. Troubleshoots minor network system and computer hardware problems and makes repairs where necessary. Provides end user training and assistance where required. Takes ownership for supporting technical problems and tasks with a sense of urgency. Maintains accurate hardware inventory and places orders for new equipment and IT supplies. Requires traveling to each of our seven library branch locations.
Outreach Library Assistant, position M2455, November 2023
As part of the Manatee County Library Outreach Team, participates in outreach services within the Library and the community. Under supervision, the Outreach Library Assistant will provide needed programs and services to under-served and at-risk populations, present programs for all ages in a variety of non-library locations and speak to school and community groups to provide instruction and information about library programs and services. Also, delivers age-appropriate materials to daycare centers, senior centers, independent and assisted living facilities and nursing homes. Reserves materials for Homebound Delivery patrons and schedules delivery. This position requires significant interaction with the public and the ability to work independently with limited supervision. Frequent travel within the library system service area to provide outreach services is also required. An ideal candidate for this position will possess strong computer skills. They will be able to work nights and weekends and work both indoors and outdoors. Frequent standing and walking are required, as well as the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Spanish-speaking fluency is a plus.

Assists with installation, maintenance, routine troubleshooting and support for the library's hardware, software, and networks. Supports the library with entry-level technical work and identifies new products to implement. Troubleshoots minor network system and computer hardware problems and makes repairs where necessary. Provides end user training and assistance where required. Takes ownership for supporting technical problems and tasks with a sense of urgency.
Support Services and Collection Development, Position M0992
Provides support service for tagging hard-copy resources, collection acquisition, and ordering. Performs copy-cataloging functions, works with OCLC bibliographic records, exports records into database, prints labels for all in-house processed items, and applies RDA standards in cataloging editing decisions. Orders supplies and repackages and labels damaged items. Receives and invoices incoming materials, clears damaged discs using the buffing machine, uploads vendor record, and sorts and researches gift materials.
Circulation Department Support
Provides customer service support at the Circulation desk and throughout the library for computer and technical assistance.
Programming Library Assistant, Position M1912
As part of the Manatee County Library Programming Team, participates in providing programming within the library and occasionally for library outreach. Under supervision, the Programming Library Assistant will provide needed programs and services to various populations in the Central Library branch, its makerspace, occasionally in other library branches of Manatee County, or outreach locations. This position requires significant interaction with the public and the ability to work independently with limited supervision. An ideal candidate for this position will possess the ability to teach others, skill and/or interest in crafting, strong communication/customer service skills, and computer skills. Works nights and weekends, and works in indoor and outdoor settings.
Information Services
This position provides excellent customer service and technical assistance at service desks, primarily in the Archive Lab, which is also a space for the public to digitize their personal records in various formats such as scrapbooks, photos, negatives, VHS tapes and film reels. Uses equipment such as photo scanners, book and map scanners, and audiovisual converters. Troubleshoots minor technical and AV issues. Assists patrons with accessing print materials and online resources. Assists patrons with using public computers. May digitize local historical materials.
