Work Hours : Monday - Sunday, shifts vary from 4 : 30 am - 11 : 30 pm

This classification oversees and actively participates in work involved in the operation of the County Transit system on an assigned shift. Work involves responsibility for safe and efficient transportation of the general public, physically handicapped, and / or senior citizens, either on an assigned route in the County or to and from different locations in and around the Manatee County Region.
Working Conditions
Indoor / outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
This is a safety-sensitive position. Employment and continued employment with Manatee County Government is contingent upon passing pre-employment and employment screenings identified in Section XX of the Personnel Policy, Rules, and Procedures Manual. An applicant / employee who fails to pass a drug / alcohol screening, shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of three (3) years.
Job Description
Essential Functions

Applies knowledge of applicable traffic laws and regulations; applies knowledge of, or quickly learns and applies knowledge of, the geography of the County and applicable bus routes; applies knowledge of security and safety requirements associated with bus operations.
Prepares weekly schedules for drivers; assigns drivers; drives routes to check road conditions, passenger safety and schedules; serves as relief bus operator or dispatcher when required.
Collects and secures fare boxes, participates in counting fare box contents, and maintains accurate records.
Provides information to the public on bus schedules and routes.
Supervises street operation of the Transit system including schedule adherence, passenger relations, regulations compliance and spot-checking routes.
Supervises and trains Transit Operators, Transit Attendants, and other assigned staff; performs other personnel-related duties, i. e., recommending hiring, firing and disciplinary actions, completing Employee Performance Evaluations, etc.
Responds to emergency situations in a calm and appropriate manner; eliminates service disruptions.
Establishes priorities, delegates responsibilities, ensures operators are scheduled in a timely manner to meet routing and passenger needs; ensures conformance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Communicates clearly, effectively, and tactfully, orally and in writing.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, clients, etc.
Serves as Superintendent in his / her absence, when requested.
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent certificate of competency.
Minimum of three (3) years' work experience in transit operations.
Valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with a Passenger Endorsement or must obtain within 30 days of hire.
Safe driving record required.
Prior supervisory experience highly desired.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Ability to perform physical tasks involving climbing, pulling, pushing, walking, standing, bending, balancing, kneeling, and stooping.
Complete field of vision required with near, far, and peripheral acuity, and depth perception.
Skill in safely operating a County bus or other Transit vehicle with a constant exposure to variable and adverse weather and traffic conditions, noise, fumes / gases, radiant energy, uneven surfaces and moving objects.
