Work Location: 3333 Lena Road, Bradenton, Florida 34210
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Coordinates and performs field and administrative work in overseeing the daily operations of the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and electronics facility located at the Landfill facility to assure compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations.

Working Conditions
Indoor/outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance.

Ensures program activities are completed within appropriate timeframes and in accordance with Manatee County ordinances, FDEP regulatory requirements and current franchise agreements.
Maintains the permanent HHW and electronics site at the Landfill; contacts and schedules with various contractors when pick up of different waste is needed.
Maintains the permanent HHW and electronics site at the Landfill; contacts and schedules with various contractors when pick up of different waste is needed.
Operates monthly HHW and electronics collection at the Landfill; coordinates large collection events and arranges media advertising; arranges for public education regarding proper disposal.
Makes pickups and arranges special accommodations for handicapped persons regarding HHW and electronics.
Picks up HHW and electronics dropped off at County recycling drop-off sites.
Responds to other County Departments to assist in maintaining proper disposal of hazardous waste and electronics.
Ensures proper disposal of HHW and electronics incorrectly sent to the daily working face of the Landfill.
Assist in public education and outreach.
Prepares technical reports; performs detailed research, collects data and compiles administrative reports; maintains required paperwork.
Assist in containment and proper cleanup/disposal procedures in the event of fuel spills at the Landfill site.
Performs site inspections several times per week of each of the special waste areas to ensure compliance with the Operating Permit and Purchasing Agreements as they relate to field activities.
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency required.
Minimum of one (1) year experience in the operation of forklifts.
OSHA certification required or must be able to obtain within six months of hire.
Valid HazWopper, or must be able to obtain within six months of hire.
Must obtain Landfill Operators Certification within one year of hire.
Valid driver's license required with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire.
A comparable combination of education, training, and work experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate various activities to ensure all aspects of the special waste and recycling program are met.
Skill in the use of a personal computer, including use of the Window's operating system.

Ability to work outdoors under varying conditions for extended periods of time.
Skill in the operation of forklifts and other equipment needed to operate the Household Hazardous Waste and electronics program.
