Work Location: GT Bray Park - 5502 3rd Avenue Drive West, Bradenton Florida, 34209

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

This classification performs work involving maintenance/repair of County parks, preserves, properties and related facilities, including minor construction of park amenities (picnic tables, benches, grills), athletic fields, recreation areas, playgrounds and related equipment, in accordance with department and area of assignment. Employees in this class perform a variety of manual labor tasks requiring job acquired skills in specialized fields. Work involves considerable public contact in providing information and assistance to park patrons.

Working Conditions  Indoor/Outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Climbing and descending ladders and stairs. Strenuous work under a variety of weather conditions. Shifts may include weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts. With proper training, operates hand tools and power tools, mowers, tractors, trucks, and related equipment for job assignment.

Note: Work schedules will involve weekends, holidays and rotating shifts all of which entail independent responsibility in handling emergency situations and closing parks.

Technician Level I:

Area of Assignment - Property Management

Performs routine semi-skilled work in one or more trades associated with maintenance and repair of parks and beach facilities, grounds, and equipment. Park Maintenance may include, but not be limited to, minor and/or routine assembly of amenities (picnic tables, grills, benches), electrical, plumbing, mechanical, painting, carpentry, masonry, trails, and an introduction to heavy equipment.

May assist higher level maintenance workers, or contracted professionals in accomplishing more advanced or skilled projects.

Organizes and prepares parts and tools for each day's work; loads and unloads trucks as needed; completes all daily functions.

Performs duties to maintain landscapes, trees, grounds, trails, irrigation systems for landscaped areas and active restoration projects etc.

Operates maintenance and other related equipment in performing landscape and grounds maintenance tasks, such as mowing, edging, weeding, trimming, pruning, blowing, etc. Duties may also include, but not be limited to cleaning, painting, removing rubbish and other refuse from grounds and buildings, repairing, and maintaining various parks facilities and properties, and assisting with invasive plant control etc.

Assists in routine inspection of vehicles and equipment and reports deficiencies to supervisor or designated personnel.

Performs record keeping and reporting duties, i.e., service records, basic logs, reports, etc. (some of which may be computerized).

Loads and unloads heavy materials from trucks, vans, or other areas; moves or aids in moving heavy boxes, equipment and larger or bulky objects.

Effectively interact with the public, provides information, and enforces rules and regulations in a pleasant and tactful manner.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

Attends monthly safety meetings provided by department.


Technician Level II:

Performs routine skilled work in one or more trades associated with minor construction of parks amenities, maintenance and repair of parks and recreation facilities, grounds, and equipment. Trades work may include, but not be limited to, basic electrical, basic plumbing, mechanical, basic painting, basic carpentry, basic masonry, ball fields and an introduction to heavy equipment.

Operates hand tools and power tools, mowers, tractors, trucks, forklift, chipper, front end loader and related items for job assignment, as needed.

Perform routine skills work associated with the identification and treatment of native and exotic plant species. May assist with prescribed burns, if applicable.

May assist higher level maintenance workers, Building Trades Workers or contracted professionals in accomplishing more advanced or skilled trade’s projects.

Performs amenity install and repairs, including benches, grills, picnic tables, bleachers, trash receptacles, bike racks, car stops, fish cleaning tables, signs and bollards. Performs all duties to maintain landscapes, grounds, shrubs, sprinkler systems, etc.

Operates maintenance and other related equipment in performing landscape and grounds maintenance tasks, such as mowing, edging, weeding, trimming, pruning, blowing, etc.

Duties may also include, but not be limited to cleaning, painting, removing rubbish and other refuse from grounds and buildings, repairing and maintaining various parks facilities and properties, etc.

Operates various automotive vehicles and light to medium equipment, i.e., tractors, rotary and reel mowers, bush hogs, front-end loaders, pick-up trucks, etc.; may perform maintenance and repairs, as required.

Inspects vehicles and equipment and reports deficiencies to supervisor or designated personnel.

Performs record keeping and reporting duties, i.e., service records, basic logs, reports, etc. (some of which may be computerized).

Loads and unloads heavy materials from trucks, vans or other areas; moves or aids in moving heavy boxes, equipment and larger or bulky objects.

Effectively interact with the public, provides information, and enforces rules and regulations in a pleasant and tactful manner.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

Technician level III:

Performs routine skilled work in two or more trades associated with maintenance and repair of parks and recreation facilities, grounds, and equipment.

Trades work may include, but not be limited to basic electrical, basic plumbing, mechanical, basic painting, basic carpentry, basic masonry, ball fields and an introduction to heavy equipment.

Performs duties to maintain landscapes, grounds, shrubs, irrigation systems, etc.

Performs routine advanced level work in all trades associated with construction, maintenance and repair of parks and recreation facilities, grounds, and equipment.

Trades work may include, but not be limited to, minor and/or routine construction, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, painting, carpentry, masonry, irrigation, etc. May assist higher level Building Trades Workers or contracted professionals in accomplishing more advanced or skilled trades projects.

Operates maintenance and other related equipment in performing routine landscape and grounds maintenance tasks, such as mowing, edging, weeding, trimming, pruning, blowing, etc. Duties may also include, but not be limited to, cleaning, painting, removing rubbish and other refuse from grounds and buildings, repairing and maintaining various parks facilities and properties, etc.

Inspects, lubricates and assists with minor service and repair of small engines and power equipment, as needed; makes routine inspections of vehicles and reports deficiencies to supervisor or designated personnel; keeps tools and equipment in good working order.

Operates various automotive vehicles and light to medium equipment, i.e., tractors, rotary and reel mowers, bush hogs, front-end loaders, pick-up trucks, etc.; may perform maintenance and repairs, as required.

Maintains service records and basic work logs, as required.

Rotates evening shift and may work weekends/holidays, all of which entail independent responsibility in handling emergency situations, enforcing park rules and regulations, and closing parks.

Loads and unloads heavy materials from trucks, vans or other areas; moves or aids in moving heavy boxes, equipment and larger or bulky items.

Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.

Effectively interact with the public, provides information, and enforces rules and regulations in a pleasant and tactful manner.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

Attends monthly safety meetings provided by department.

Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.

Technician level I:

High school graduate/equivalent.

Valid Florida Driver's License within 30 days of hire.

Technician level II:

High school graduate/equivalent.

Two (2) years' experience as a Parks Maintenance Technician or related field. Successful completion of skill sets for Parks Maintenance Technicians I and II.

Valid driver's license required, with valid Florida driver's license required within 30 days of hire.

A comparable combination of education, training, and work experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Technician level III:

High school graduate/equivalent.

Three (3) years’ experience as a Parks Maintenance Tech or Related field.

Successful completion of PMT Skill Set III.

Two (2) areas of expertise, based on department's needs (Playgrounds, Irrigation, Heavy Equipment, Parks/Trades, Chemical Technician, and/or Sports-Athletic Fields Specialist).

Valid Florida Driver's License and Valid CDL Class A or B may be required, depending on area of assignment.
