Pilot

General Description of Duties

Primary role is to provide ground Law Enforcement units with an additional resource and aerial perspective to assist in the success of their mission. As a licensed civilian pilot, consistently updates knowledge of MCSO aircraft systems, FAA regulations, aircraft avionics, and radio systems. Maintains aircraft and record-keeping logs in accordance with federal, state and agency procedures. Is available on call with availability 24/7 for emergencies. Ensures the safe operation and piloting of all MCSO aircraft to perform at optimum functioning capability. Performs necessary navigation skills used in the course of assisting law enforcement, providing air transportation, and other MCSO activities.

• Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) aerospace regulations and aircraft safety recommendations.
• Skill in flying aircraft at all times of day, during all seasons and weather conditions.
• Skill in competently flying aircraft at low altitudes and with low air speeds.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

• Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Ability to occasionally push, pull, lift and/or carry equipment, tools, supplies and other materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Must possess hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to use hands and arms to finger, handle, grasp and feel; climb into and out of vehicles; and to operate the following: vehicles, computers, tools, and any other equipment that is used to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight.
• Visual perception and discrimination including color perception is required.
• Requires flexibility and availability for any/all disaster or emergency situations.

Tasks and Policies

• Operates agency aircraft in a safe and efficient manner to provide aerial support in law enforcement and transportation activities.
• Maintains all or part of the agency aircraft, including airframe, propellers, engines, radios, and flight instruments with approved replacement parts and cleaners.
• Maintains logbooks and other documents used for recordkeeping related to agency aircraft, flights or miscellaneous aviation related activity in accordance with FAA regulations.
• Performs a variety of aviation related inspections in accordance with FAA procedures.
• Successfully completes all assignments to specifications, within specified timeframe and budget as directed and in accordance with agency policies and regulations.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

POLICY

• Arrives on time for work, limits breaks and lunches to the allotted time, and leaves on time. Uses leave in accordance with General Orders; communicates and cooperates with management in providing proper notice of leave; patterns and amounts of leave usage (not including legitimate, properly scheduled and approved leave and protected leave).
• Volume of work accomplished is consistent with position requirements and produced within quality tolerance standards.
• Works with other team members to achieve group goals by contributing ideas in group settings, accepting ideas contributed by others, operating within team rules, participating in team meetings, working with team members to improve job knowledge and skills, putting team goals over personal goals, and supporting team leaders once decisions are made.
• Follows standard office procedures, safety policies and procedures and agency General Orders.
• Operates and cares for equipment, tools, and vehicles according to prescribed standards and schedules.
• Follows safety procedures; meets standards for frequency, severity and at-fault status of vehicle accidents, other accidents, and injuries of all types; participates in identifying and resolving causal factors for accidents; participates in promoting safety on the job.
• Maintains good interpersonal relations (the manner in which the employee responds emotionally and verbally) with the public, other employees, and supervisors. This policy also relates to the image the employee projects and includes cleanliness and personal grooming.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
• Must have a valid pilot’s license.
• Possession of a current Flight 2 medical certificate required.
• Must possess a current Commercial Rotorcraft certificate.
• Preferred experience with Bell Helicopter 206, 206L, OH58, TH67, 407, and 505.
• Certified Flight Instructor rating preferred.
• Possession of instrument rating preferred.
• Ability to work nights and on-call.
• Valid Florida driver license required.
