SUMMARY:
The Student Advisor provides supportive services to an assigned number of student cohorts with the goals of enhancing student engagement, facilitating academic success, and helping students overcome personal barriers to achieving their educational and career aspirations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not strictly limited to, the following:
- Establishes and maintains a professional rapport with assigned student groups.
- Develops and maintains a list of social service agencies and other community resources. Seeks opportunities to broaden network of referral sources.
- Assists students who are experiencing personal barriers to academic success by providing information about appropriate social service agencies, governmental services (i.e., DPW, OVR, CareerLink, etc.) and other community resources.
- As necessary, serves as a liaison between students and service providers.
- Mediates student complaints and concerns and proposes strategies for resolution.
- Refers students to contracted counselor to address issues related to mental and emotional health.
- Enforces student behavioral policies as outlined in the school catalog.
- Monitors student attendance and issues subsequent warnings per school Workplace Expectations Points system and policies.
- Initiates individual advising sessions to develop an action plan. Follows up on progress.
- Documents individual advising sessions and noteworthy student interactions.
- Contributes to new student orientation process.
- Follows school policies, FERPA and the PA State Board of Private Licensed Schools’ regulations.
- Assists with Student Services initiatives (speaker series, resource fairs, etc.).
- Consults and collaborates with school administrators.
- As directed, participates in various external training efforts and other professional development activities such as crisis intervention training, train the trainer, etc.
- As directed, attends industry relevant conferences.
- Exhibits understanding and internalization of company values: influence, respect, listen, shape, and embrace.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field from a four-year college or university; two years experience in adult education or social services; demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse population and MS Office skills required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The worker is required to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer screen, reading, and preparing and analyzing documents. Light to moderate lifting may be required. Regular, predictable attendance is required.
