Job Summary
This teaching position provides direct instruction and supervision of high school-aged students in the area of Cosmetology. Because this program is a NH Department of Education-approved Career Technical Education program, the program’s curriculum is designed to meet a rigorous set of core program competencies that will prepare students with the skills and knowledge to either enter the work force or transition successfully into a post-secondary education program in Cosmetology or a related field.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Completion of a cosmetology licensing program.
Certification: Must have or be eligible to earn a NH Teacher Certificate in Career Technical Education Specialty Area: Cosmetology 1726
Experience: At least two years of related industry and/or classroom experience recommended.
Essential Teaching Responsibilities
Provides content-related and appropriate instruction based on national, state and local curriculum through a combination of classroom and laboratory experiences.
Understands and implements successful practices regarding curriculum management, instruction and assessment.
Understands the needs of students and implements successful classroom and behavior management.
Provides instruction and projects based on program guidelines and requirements.
Manages and maintains program facilities and equipment.
Maintains an up-to-date inventory of equipment.
Adheres to all state guidelines required for the implementation of a successful program.
Provides a classroom environment that promotes active learning in the subject area.
Communicates responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, administration and community members.
Accounts for student attendance, grading and assessments of student learning.
Follows all local, state and federal policies procedures to be a professional educator.
Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities.
Participates in activities related to meeting all professional responsibilities.
Additional Teaching Responsibilities
Attends school and district-level professional learning activities as directed.
Prepares adequately for teaching and other responsibilities to be assumed when absent.
Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning and sending written communications.
Integrates appropriate technology into classroom instruction.
Contributes in a positive manner to the professional climate of the building.
Meets and maintains DOE expectations for CTE Program Approval.
Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Classroom and student behavior management.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Knowledge of the concepts and systems such product/service management, marketing plan development, pricing strategies, market research and decision making, risk management, business law, financial planning, business operations cycle, as well as have an understanding of the relationship between marketing concept, mix and functions.
Knowledge of the concepts of entrepreneurship and business management.
Knowledge of electronic tools and strategies used in marketing in the digital world.
Ability to develop in students job-related skills including: time management, ability to work both independently as well as part of a team; punctuality, work ethic, leadership, etc.
Working Conditions
This position will require work in both classroom and lab (shop) environments.
This position oversees the management of an onsite cosmetology salon.
Should be comfortable moving/lifting 50 pounds.
Work could include attending events outside of the regular contract day.
Specified Length/Hours of Position:
This is an affiliated (MEA) position under the Teacher Association negotiated contract, following the school calendar with additional workshop days
