What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service Manager position at Manchester School District?
Food Service Manager plans, organizes and manages the operations of the District’s commissary at Beech Street School to ensure the timely and quality delivery of meals to assigned school locations.. Performs directly related work as required.
The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Food Services Director, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Supervision is exercised over the work of other employees as detailed below. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with other School Department personnel, students, vendors, suppliers, Federal and State officials, and the public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a large institutional kitchen at Beech Street School.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- Graduation from a vocational school with a certificate or Associate’s Degree.
- Some experience in food service
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Thorough knowledge of sanitation and safety requirements for handling food and operating equipment.
- Substantial knowledge of procedures and forms used in inventory, purchasing, school food and USDA commodities.
- Ability to supervise, manage, train, and evaluate staff.
- Ability to practice and promote safe working habits.
- Ability to plan and organize the operations of a large school cafeteria.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, using standard or customized computer software applications appropriate to assigned tasks.
- Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions.
- Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
Rate of Pay: Grade 13A $20.59/hour
