Job Qualifications
NYS School Counselor Certification required (Internship Certificate will be considered)
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Middle School Counselor to join our team to fill a maternity leave through the end of the 24-25 school year. The ideal candidate will provide academic, emotional, and social support to students, guiding them in their personal development and helping them navigate the challenges of middle school.
**Objectives of This Role:**
Create a supportive environment for students
Address and manage parent concerns
Balance academic growth with emotional development in student life
Promote a school-wide culture of support and care
Ensure the student body demonstrates maturity and respect
**Responsibilities:**
Collaborate with administration, counseling staff and teachers to maintain a high-quality program
Assess student interests and abilities through individual planning
Facilitate discussions and conflict resolution between students, teachers, and parents
Provide counseling and resources to individual students, small groups, and classrooms
Organize events to raise student awareness of social issues
Report on student well-being to the administration
Provide crisis intervention and support as needed
Facilitate workshops on topics such as college readiness, mental health awareness, and conflict resolution
Maintain accurate records and documentation of counseling sessions and student progress
**Skills and Qualifications:**
- Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field
New York State Certification (or Certificate of Internship) as a School Counselor
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations
Experience in a school setting preferred
**Preferred Qualifications:**
Comfort in leading conflict resolution and crisis management sessions
Collaborative and inspirational mindset
Ability to lead and advise
Understanding of youth/adolescent psychology
Capacity to assess academic achievement and capabilities
Additional Requirements:
Carries out any other assigned duties and/or responsibilities which may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education
Job Details:
7.5-hour day, following the published Red Jacket school calendar for 2024-2025
