 The Mandel JCC of Cleveland is a nonprofit fitness, wellness and community center serving people in all stages of life. The Beachwood campus is home to a total fitness and aquatics center, an Early Childhood Center and garden, Stonehill Conference Center, and outdoor grounds that host our popular summer J-Day Camps. The J has provided engaging and enriching programs and fitness amenities to meet the needs of our community. Do you desire to make a difference?  Find a position that gives you the opportunity to help serve more than 50,000 people each year?  Join our team at the J!  The Senior Director of Marketing and Communication is responsible for agency-wide brand strategy from visioning, to development, and implementation of all organizational marketing plans, communications, and public relations activities. Provides leadership, direction, and development to the Marketing and Communications Department staff and coordinates at the strategic and tactical levels with the Leadership Team and Program Directors. The Marketing and Communications team’s strategy and plans are rooted in our mission and values.

Essential Functions:

  • Marketing, communications, and public relations strategies.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive marketing strategy that promotes The J's brand consistently across all programs, enhancing awareness within the membership, Jewish community, and broader public.
  • Collaborates on intra- and inter-departmental planning to align marketing strategies with program goals.
  • Serves as brand ambassador, ensuring cohesion among all brands and sub-brands.
  • Creates an annual marketing plan to drive traffic for revenue-generating services, membership, events, and fundraising activities.
  • Produces publicity materials for all program areas, including updates, guides, brochures, and press releases.
  • Manages social media and marketing tech platforms to drive engagement and website traffic.
  • Oversees public information, media contacts, communications, and acts as the primary media contact and spokesperson.
  • Gathers marketing insights through surveys, focus groups, and other tools to assess brand and marketing effectiveness and identify unmet needs.
  • Creates personalized communications for one-to-one client engagement.
  • Supervises the design and copy of all promotional materials.
    • Responsible for achievement of marketing and communication missions, goals, and financial objectives by providing a monthly progress report as directed.
    • Develops and implements an agency-wide marketing budget on a timely basis as well as monitors its activities, progress, assure adherence as well as explain any variances.
    • Negotiates with vendors and contractors for all marketing purchases.
    • Develops, implements, and monitors timelines and systems necessary for the marketing team to achieve the plans and strategies outlined annually.
    • Agency calendar management.
  • Organizational Strategy
    • Assists in ensuring that The J’s philosophy, mission, vision, and values are communicated throughout the organization in its messaging.
    • Acts as an internal resource to bring attention and solutions to The J’s priorities.
    • Works with leadership to develop and maintain a strategic prospective based on the current environment and organizational direction and program services to ensure the stability of The J.
  • Managing
    • Recruits, develops, supports, supervises, evaluates and retains top quality personnel for the department.
    • In partnership with the HR department, develop an effective talent management strategy for the marketing department.
  • Completes other responsibilities as assigned by President, CEO or COO.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or communications.
  • Seven to ten years of experience in marketing and communications management.
  • Agency experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work well under pressure to manage multiple concurrent tasks, re-prioritize work, and be flexible while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, time management, presentation, leadership, and motivation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experiences preferred in Canva, InDesign, Salesforce, Social Media Platforms
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
