POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is for an aftercare counselor in our inclusion program. Inclusion counselors support students with and without special needs with support from the group counselors. Inclusion counselorssupport the children in general daily activities, = and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships. Experience in a self-contained or inclusive setting is preferred. Hours are from 2:15-6:00.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises children during arrival, dismissal, playground time and snack to ensure children are safe and accounted for at all times. Assists in the implementation of the Pro-Active behavior management strategies for individual/group settings to ensure the safety of all children and staff.
- Assists in the preparation and implementation of a developmentally appropriate activities for each child.
- Communicates with parents, coordinator and other primary care givers to ensure a positive, participating environment.
- Monitors and coordinates activities to provide children with an enhanced learning experience.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in a self-contained or inclusive setting is preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; College Degree preferred.
- Feel comfortable asking questions to other members of department.
- Flexibility with work hours
- Willingness to learn and embrace the culture at the Mandel JCC
- Strong people skills - you’re approachable, a good listener, and empathetic.
- Ability to work efficiently, effectively and independently.
- Ability to work collaboratively with agency staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere, and maintain courteous and professional working relationships with clients and peers.
